I replaced brake pads for fun... and found this

My car(25,000 miles) has no issue, low milage, only 5,000 miles since the last oil change. Today, I replaced the front brake pad for fun. OEM pads make dust a lot, especially on driver side. I brought it to a dealership 5,000 miles ago but they told "Your brake are absolutely normal. The dust is normal". I could check it myself but had them because it was under warranty.

I decided to replace the OEM pads to a ceramic pads, Akebono EUR1794 ($76.20 total including shipping+tax). This is only to reduce the dust. No other reason. Right?

and I found this:

I've checked the slide pins but all pins were normal. The only reason I found was design flows.
.
  • The pad didn't move freely in the slot.
  • The brake wear indicator make the pad too tight in the slot.
  • There is no return spring (Yes, my other brand vehicle has the spring).
  • There is no wear sensor at the driver side. (There is a sensor at the passenger side).
I applied brake lubrication at the slots when installing the new pads but I guess it will happen again in the near future.

It's too early to say it on W205, but I've used the same product (but, of course, different part number) on the other cars, (1) dust : good (much less dust than the MB OEM pads) (2) braking power : average (similar with OEM or very slightly less than OEM). I'm ok with the pads as I don't do racing.

Good job finding that! Now do the rear brakes. If your w205 has active torque vectoring like on C43, rears usually go before fronts.

Ok... sigh~~ I am ordering the rear pads (Akebono EUR1795). 25k miles is too early as it lasts 40k miles at least, but who know. Uneven wearing can happen. Let's see...

What assist systems do you have on your vehicle? Can you post the VIN?

Mine is a basic trim with only blind spot assist. The sized front pad in the caliper frame caused the uneven wear. I'm surprised the brake didn't have a rattle shim or a return spring but the pads contact directly with the caliper frame.

Rear brake pad was fine at it can move freely. It's still 80+% condition at 25,000 miles. Slide pins is hold by a rubber block but I applied silicon paste on them.
