First Look at W206 C43

I had the chance to get my first up close look at a production example of the new AMG C 43.
A few points of interest-
  • 69/31 fixed power delivery between front and rear wheels
  • 201HP per liter
  • AMG Drive Units as standard
  • Hand-built AMG engines
  • Electronically assisted turbocharger
  • 9-Speed DCT
  • Race Start

This one is a factory rep's car but is an early production example, not preproduction. Mercedes-Benz says we'll see them reaching dealers in January which probably means February or March.

Glad those C43/63 models don't get by default the few burmester modules available.

many of us are anticipating them to land on US shore in December. Some customer cars will be concluding production this week and next in SA and a 6 week ship time has been estimated. What the EPA regulation processing time will be, I have no idea. That will be the true indicator of when people can start taking delivery.

Our dealership has had one in the states for well over a month now but it isn't moving any time soon. The initial estimate was August, then October, and most recently we were told January. I highly doubt any customers will be taking possession this calendar year.

I see that as a good thing, the sooner a car has been here the sooner it will be processed? Now, if MB decides to hold them for another/alternative reason - have no idea.

Things have been so whacky - so I wouldn't be surprised if you're right.

They'll be held for a little while like most of the recent releases have been. The official MSRP hasn't even dropped for the cars on Netstar.

Two additional bits of information that impressed me that I forgot to mention-
  • High and low pressure separate fuel systems
  • 31.5psi of maximum boost

My C300 "AMG Line" has way more blackout trim than this (not quite a real) AMG.

The W206 C300 with the AMG Line exterior package by default gets the Night Package as well. Night Package is optional on the C43.

I thought only the 63s had the hand built engines and not the 43s.

The C 43 uses a version of the CLA 45 engine, so hand built.

Ya that changed for this generation, the w206 C 63 basically has the exact same engine (other than tuning as the C 63 e performance makes more power from the engine alone) as the W206 C 43 this gen both M139 and both longitudinaljust that the W206 C 63 e performance has that hybrid powertrain and all the e performance stuff most of which inspired by the GT 63s e performance I think.

I've never heard this before. All W206s have the hybrid technology which comes from the Formula 1 cars. The 63s are so much more expensive because the 63 engines are hand built. The 43 engines have never been hand built and they're not as expensive as the 63s because of it.

As @mercedesmax stated, the C43 uses a variant of the M139 from the CLA45 which is hand built. This time around it is a one man, one engine.

All good, I was surprised the W206 gen C 43 gets hand-built as well when it was revealed, I thought they would reserve that exclusive for the C 63 e performance, I wonder if they want to make up for it in the C 43 to have a lack of 6 cylinder?

I wouldn't be surprised if internals, etc. are slightly different as it makes 476hp in the W206 C63. That's a lot of headroom in the c43/cla45 or the c63 is absolutely wringed out (as far as factory liability standards are concerned)

but that's almost moot and not really the topic here.

There's like, a really long thread about this car in the W206 AMG forum: https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...der-guide.html

it's pretty much the same, the difference is in c43 the electric turbo generates 13 or 18 extra hp, can't recall exactly, but in c63 it's a bit more as there is more electrical power available since it has 2 batteries,

Thanks for the update. I was not aware of this change. The differentiating factor between the 63s and the 43s has always been that the 63s got the hand built engine so that justified the higher price and the rarity for the 63s. I wonder how 63 owners will react to find out that their hand built engines will no longer be so rare and that they paid so much more than 43 owners. It'll be interesting to see what the MB enthusiast community does with this one.

C63 has 2 electric batteries good for another 200 or so hp, but that power is only available for 10 seconds at a time. Also, it's 700 pounds heavier than c43.

For those wondering, the upcoming Mercedes-AMG C43 does indeed use the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine without the hybrid system but the turbocharger in the C63 S is significantly larger.
just to follow up since the c63 has been reviewed.
