Upgrade to Zero Layer

I believe the C Class is getting an MBUX update to Zero Layer. See below

Apparently it is already available. https://media.mercedes-benz.com/arti...2-b7292202cfe9

Any ideas how I can force my car to download it please? I don’t have it yet.

thanks

You should already have it. The W206 shipped with it I believe. The C300 loaner I had recently which was running an older version of MBUX had it. You can switch between zero layer and classic by pressing and holding the Home button if I remember correctly.

If for any reason you still don't have it despite holding the home button as mentioned, then you might need to take the vehicle in to the dealership to have the update installed.

Hey thanks for the responses!

So yes long pressing of the home button does switch between interfaces. You get the one where the map is in the middle with three buttons below, or the one with buttons all over. But it’s still not the zero layer.

The zero layer has the funky floating recommendations. Mine doesn’t have that.

good idea on the dealership. I’ll try that and post back what happens.

Not sure what you mean by funky floating recommendations, but the zero layer is AI driven and it learns which features you use regularly and then presents them to you on the zero layer along with suggestions etc. You need to give it some time to learn your habits.

This is a great article to help describe the situation.
https://www.dsf.my/2023/02/w206-and-...r-mbux-update/
I have what is described as the original C-Class interface in the article.

The old interface which looks like this:

Original c class mbux interface

the upgraded interface will look like this:

I’ve had the car for over a year now. Hopefully it’s learned a thing or two about my habits.

The second one is the zero layer interface and that's what I had in the C300 loaner as mentioned, but you can switch between the two by pressing and holding the Home button as said. Are you saying you can't switch to the zero layer interface?

Hmmh...yeah that looks like your car hasn't received the necessary update. Can you switch the home screen in the System settings as shown above? The zero layer UI is an OTA update, so it should get pushed to your car automatically, unless it has for some reason not be released yet for your region. Have you received any OTA updates? You can see the OTA updates in the app. Unfortunately, you can't force the download. Once it gets pushed to your car, the MBUX starts downloading it in the background, assuming haven't turned off automatic updates. Otherwise you have to check for updates manually.

Yes OTA updates are on. I have received updates in my car before. I have also tried Check for Updates and there are no updates for the car.

Maybe its a region thing - I am in Australia. Dealer is yet to find out what is going on.

Took it to the dealer who updated it with Zero Layer and it’s all good. He also said there was an update to the driving assistance system. He couldn’t tell me any specifics on what that update was, apart from the fact that it was done.

Glad to hear, now enjoy zero layer.

If the driving assistance system update is what I remembered reading, it should help make the system more reliable as there were so pretty bad instances of randomly detected "ghost objects" and slamming on the brakes, hopefully this update addressed it.

The update to the driving assistance is primarily for the displaying of speed signs - if the road and signs are recognized by the navigation, it will show up-coming speed limit signs. That's a new feature in the Zero Layer Update.

The road signs including speed sign and other signs are already recognised and shows on the heads up display. This has always been there pre zero layer as well. Are you saying there is something more?

Also is there a Changelog anywhere to see what has changed? Either in the MBUX or the general software of the car? I can’t find anything and the dealer said he had no clue what any changes were. All I got was this service report which doesn’t have any real useful information.

I know that road signs were there before, but since the update, it will be showing upcoming changes to the signs too - it didn't do that before the update (ex. speed limit down from 100 to 80). Also, it will now show pedestrian crossings on the HUD, mine didn't do that before the update.

The issue is the same as the op on my brand new 23. no zero layer. My question is will the zero layer only work if you have the navi. Mine does not.

Just checking to see if you guys got the new layout? I just took delivery of my 23 W206 and paid for the MB Navi today but can’t do the zero layout. I used a 24 loaner and that had the zero layout with the MBUX software version different from mine. I called the dealership to ask if I can get mine updated to what the loaner had and the dude told me over the phone that MB doesn’t show any updates for my VIN. My me app also says no updates for my car. I’m not sure if it’s a waiting game as MB will eventually push the update?

Do you have MBUX Navigation on your vehicle?

Navigation is integral to zero layer. No navigation, no zero layer.

I was thinking about doing the navi upgrade as well until I saw this and the limitations on my vehicle. Wasnt sure Itd be worth the money If I cant do online updates... You may want to check your hardware as well ..

so, I got the update a few days back after a few months, I also purchased the NAV option back in Feb too. TBH, I think my app and car was just jacked up. I disabled vehicle tracker or vehicle locator and re-enabled it. After a few hours I got 2 updates alerts. one for communication and the other for MBUX 2.4. MBUX 2.4 was a pain to install even after it had downloaded but when I finally got it installed then zero layer appeared by default. Also, when you purchase the NAV the digital extras will be updated and you'll have most of that available to you. At least that's what happened for me. I will share a screenshot later of my digital extras and the update
