Any knowledge out there on how to automatically start dash cam recording when engine starts rather than having to remember to start at the beginning of each journey?

I had the dash cam in my 2023 C300, and there was a setting. I don't remember exactly where, and unfortunately the car was stolen so I cannot go look. My 2025 C300 could not get the dash cam, as they were not available. That and the augmented reality for directions are the two things I miss the most. I do remember however, that having it come on automatically is not available in all countries. My vehicle was in the US.

You can’t as it’s a regulatory requirement in the uk. Fixed cameras can’t auto start recording.
I fitted a fitcamx which replaces the cover under the rain sensor and it does auto start recording and the video quality is far superior.
I am also in Bracknell!

My 2024 C300 didn't come with a camera so I had an Blackview 970 installed (front and rear). It starts automatically. It's pricey, but solid. I got it after I discovered just how good my brakes were on a full panic stop (someone pulled out in front of me from a driveway when I was going 45). I decided I needed a way to prove that I was not at fault should it happen again.

Thanks for the information which Nick O'Leary confirmed on his YouTube channel.

Hello! Does anyone know if you have to stay on the dashcam app screen to record? Or can I switch to music or directions and have the built in dashcam still recording in the background? Thanks

A dash cam by its nature should be "on" while it is on. I can't see that anyone would make a camera that was only recording while it was onscreen. I don't have a built-in camera, but if YOU do, simply go to recording and see if it recorded while you were on a different screen.

Lol I agree thank you. I don’t have it yet. I called Mercedes to ask this question before I spent the $200 and they weren’t sure!! But you’re right, I’m sure I should be able to switch screens. I’m going to buy it thanks for the reply

No, the built-in dash cam function records at soon as (and sometimes very shortly after) starting the car. It does so in the background. You should see a pop-up that mentions something about dashcam recording started. At least, in the Us, anyway.

Yes, feel free to switch to another screen once it is recording. Make sure to enable automatic loop recording so it auto starts next time the ignition is started.

The only disadvantage of this built-in dashcam is that it doesn't record when vehicle is parked and there is no sound.
