turbo lag....
sorry, did 2 or 3 searches, but, i dont have the patience to wade through search results trying to find out if this has been dicsussed.
ive heard its not very noticable, and also that its definetely there; the turbo lag.
i mean, when you put your foot down, is the engine like, "oh, you wanna go faster? ok, just a second... ok, there you go."

Minimal Turbo Lag- very comparable to my GTR... Quick spools at a dig and on demand in turns; quite an impressive piece of machinery and I have had a lot of turbo cars:
2 Supra Turbos
Audi S4
CL65
996TT
997.1TT
997.2 TT
GTR
Is it as responsive as my W212 n/a E63- no but its close and its more powerful and efficient. And it keeps pulling and pulling well over 150mph. I really like its dig pulls too with rear wheel drive. Green light and bam you are on your way. Its probably not a fair comparo to the PDK TT and the GTR both of which have awd and launch like lightning. This makes the CLS to me that much more spectacular.

so would you say its worth the extra 20-30 grand.?
i cant get a brand new 2011 e63 (8 miles on it) w/amg package and premium package for 99,000 asking. msrp was over 122 (here in canada.)
this is my big dilemma

The turbo lag (lack of it) is really not an issue.

If your dilemma is between the old 6.2 & the new 5.5 biturbo, then I'd have to point out that the technology in the new engine was a big factor in selling me. The Eco stop / start function is great when I feel like using it, and the turbo lag is almost nonexistent.
Check out the video about the new engine:

Used car trade in's always change the negotiations... what did they offer and what did you want? Whats your specs on the car? (dont care about mods as no dealer will bump you for them)

the main 2 mods i has were bbs ch-r wheels and rpi exhaust which i removed both and sold them before attempting to trade cause i knew id lose basically everything
i put on a few cosmetic mods:
blacked out kidney grilles,
blacked out side markers,
blacked out side gills,
new drivers seat/leather - $2000
DINAN stage 1 software
DINAN pulley
Eibach springs,10 mm H&R spacers all around
powdercoated black calipers /new seals - $2800
i was offered 51 at one merc dealership.
said it wasnt good enough so i went to merc dealership # 2, and asked them if theyd be interested in beating it, if so id order a 2012 CLS63 on the spot.
i said i wanted them to beat it by $2000.
i know doesnt sound like much but, i know the car can get more.
its a 2008, VERY clean, black M5, 1.5 years remaining on the CPO warranty. and only 31,000 miles.
im in canada, so prices here are a fair bit higher.

You are in Canada so things differ but I dont think there are any incentives on the CLS63... You might have access to the Conquest Program; this is where MBCC will give you 2k if you provide ownership proof of a certain marquis. Stateside this was still in effect thru 2011- not sure about 2012. My proof was the Porsche.

Mainly, could you please clarify the turbo lag issues you had with the cls and compare it to the F10 M5, which I have had seat time in. The new 580 bhp Shooting brake is tempting, but lag is not nice and would be a downgrade from the PTT powerkit.

yes, well in my opening post i pretty much had it dead on. there is lag. i would describe it as a delay in the action of putting your foot down, to the power being delivered. its especially noticeable when you floor it, from what ever speed. some people dont notice it, or just dont care abotu it, but for me, it creates a feeling of "numbness". you dont feel as connected to the car.
now, the f10 still has a hint of it. but it seems like its not as much. barely there, but still noticeable. maybe that has something to do with the smaller engine, and twin scroll turbos... ?
i know one thing, what EVER car you get that has turbos, there is going to be lag. there wont be that URGENCY that you get from a N/A car.
in hindsight i probably would have considered a panamera gts(no turbos) a jag XK- rs (no lag) ... but a can say almost for certain that my next car wont be turbocharged.

the turbo s has a power kit, whats that entail
i dont noticed any lag but i guess its subjective. it might be less in the f10 also due to the dct maybe

The powerkit/S has titanium-aluminum turbos that spool up 50% faster than regular Panamera turbos. This is the most lag free turbo car I have driven.

After the Panamera I think I need a sleeper... If the M5 had awd, it would be a different story.
This video makes a good impression. BTW he suggests there is no lag, but the gearbox is slow ?! With 580 bhp I think it wont be boring.
ANd I cant help that I like the way it looks, especially live, its actually lower than the Panamera.

One day cls63 is da sht, next it crap and M5 is da ****. Now the M5 is not as high and mighty as you had hoped and it's a pana GTS...ow but wait AWD 63 biturbo S
but it is your opinion and your cash to choose on which car to get, so wish you the best which ever way you go
don't mind me

it's isn't turbo lag you are feeling, it is torque management. a tune can remove or revise the TM and goes a long way to throttle response and making the car wake up. all modern cars, even Chevys are subject to the same thing.
