New 9500ci Display Location...Mirror

Haven't seen any CLS63 owners yet with a radar mirror so thought I share the newest modification. The car used to have it's Escort 9500ci display located between the steering column and the instrument cluster. It tended to be hard to see as the steering wheel would block it when you'd settle in the seat. Plus could mean no leniency if it was ever noticed by an officer.

Scott at radar-mirror.com specializes in modifying mirrors and was just the ticket to get this done. Removing the mirror on the CLS is super simple 5 minute job.

Scott's service is over the top. Late night email replies, fast turn around etc. For the CLS we shipped the mirror next day air on Thursday and he was able to ship back the same day he received on Friday with Sat delivery back to me.

Cost for the mod is about $500 and it's well worth it. When the display is turned off you can't even tell the mirror has a display in it. There is no cutout or phantom image behind the mirror at all. It looks 100% stock when turned off. We did another car as well and had him change the display from blue to red to better match that cars interior lights.

This is literally one of my favorite mods as it can be appreciated time the car is driven.

Thanks guys. The display shows everything the the original display shows as it was simply disassembled and put in the mirror. You can still us the all dark, minimum, medium and maximum settings for the brightness.

When I originally installed the radar I looked at the speedo integration from Mid City but decided against it as you need to be in radio mode or something for it to display. I also thought it's user interface seemed somewhat clumsy. IMHO, having the display integrated into the mirror is just as clean and infinitely more usable. It's also about the same price.

Control unit is under the steering column where it is hidden but easily accessed. After a little use, I've learned to adjust it just by feel. There is no need to look at it although you can still do that by looking around and under steering wheel. Very simple to turn off without obvious commotion in this location if/when one gets pulled over.

hyperion, there is no real link to it as it's somewhat custom. Best to email him. If you have a 9500ci, this is just a matter of unplugging the display connector from the hub and sending in your display and mirror to him. Once I received my mirror back, it was installed it in less than 30 minutes. Just tucked the display wire into the head liner along the windshield and down the drivers side A pillar/door seal and then to the dash so it could be connected back into the hubs display port.

Nice set up but you can do this for cheaper by incorporating it into your center cluster with a midcity control unit.
There was a thread about this on forum.

Thanks. V1 is great radar for sure. He has a really slick install idea on his site for V1's. Since radar can go through glass, plastic etc, you can hide the V1 in a headrest and use a remote display. Our CLS cars don't have a center headrest so it makes it kinda difficult but food for thought on other vehicles.

I did read your post and I think you do not get mine. You stated that the passport unit used to be there.
What I am saying is that it is NOT the passport unit and it is a control module that will make it appear on your center cluster. You toggle with your arrows until it appears. It is completely stealth and you need an installer to make it interface with your center cluster.
Don't get me wrong, I am not bashing your mod. I think yours has its advantage as it is always on whereas the midcity one, you have to chose what you want on your cluster.

I know full well what the Mid City interface is. This is why I discussed clumsy interface and must be in radio mode in order to see the readout. They are roughly the same price about $450-500 for the unit, and that is before install. IMHO It's neat but not great.

Have a look at this thread, post# 12 where moderator Rock, who owns one, said he wouldn't purchase it again.

Thanks for the link and feedback. I must have missed your comments. Sorry.
I do not think I will spend on either customization and will just use the passport unit. Now I need to find a reasonable place for it.
