anyone see the comparo in the latest motortend issue with the cls, panamera turbo and rs7?

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...an_comparison/

cls finished last and was said to be the most boring/un-involving of the three.

wth?

i half expected the porsche to beat the cls, but the Audi? geez...

on a positive note, cls did have the highest 1/4 mile trap speed and definitely looks slickest out of the three.

this was posted here before

the conti tires on the cls was the reason it lagged, should test all three on the same tires to make an accurate comparison

Conti s suck! Want to have fun in your CLS 63 , get a tune, take your car to a road course and mount some 265/295 19s R6 Hoosiers.
And by the way, that an old article, and Randy Probst loves every Porsche he ever drove, period.

The CLS63 is always given last price in these tests. Two things important to me - value and looks - are never even considered in the ranking.

The RS7 prices out quite a bit higher than the CLS63 when similarly equipped. I think an alcantara headliner was like a $4k option on the RS7... really ? And the Panamera Turbo S with similar power costs about $70k more than the CLS63-S.

I don't find the Panamera ugly as some do, but I think the vast majority of people find the Benz much better looking. The Audi looks great tome from the rear doors forward - it's a butterbutt.

My CLS63 came with the Pirelli PZero tires, they seem pretty decent. My CLS55 came with the Conti's and they had inferior traction and had to be replaced before 10k miles.

I just changed from the lousy contis to Michelin pss, wow what a difference. It feels like a new car ! I wish I did the change earlier. Contis would slip and slide all over the place like crazy. It came to a point where they felt completely worn out but to my surprise there was a lot of tread left in them. Conclusion contis suck ***.
The performance of the panemera could be better than the cls but I couldn't live with how ugly it looks. They should also consider sedan like features like back seats usability. Cls rear seats have decent room for short drives..panemera seats are practically useless..too claustrophobic

My 2 cents is the Panamera Turbo is a competitor on paper performance wise but I don't think it is when people cross shop the vehicle as the Turbo car is about 50K more than the other 2. The GTS is the closer competitor price wise and it loses on performance.
I must admit that the Audi is the better overall car (performance, electronics, quality) and MB will have to step up its game to get back on top.
If it was not for the fact that I got a smoking deal on the AMG, I would probably be driving the RS7 right now.
The MBworld forum rocks and I would still come here even if I had the Audi

I have a APR tuned Audi S8, never driven a RS7, but I would assume being the same basic drive train and other components, the feel is similar. The S8 is a fabulous car, but I have a Renntech tuned E63S and it is my favorite car to drive. Audi steering feel is numbing after awhile, along with the seats.
I have driven both cars to Fl., 1200 miles, and S8 I could not wait to get out of it.

There's a good reason for that...the only thing more subjective than "value" is looks. I'm not interested in an editor's opinion of how the car looks to him, or what it's "value" is if he makes $40k a year; I'll make up my own mind. Tell me how it drives, handles, accelerates, etc.

I personally think the CLS looks the best...and it's ($50k cheaper (at least) than the Panamera!) -- that's why I decided to go with the CLS63 S. And C&D got it to 60 in 3.2 seconds. And the fact that it had the bad tires was unfortunate...the one I'm getting has P Zeros.
