Take a look at PertPlus's thread linked below. It's old so some of the videos have been deleted, but you should get an idea of what people think.

I too am debating the same. I feel like I would prefer sound characteristics of the x-pipe, as I don't want it to end up sounding like an american muscle car. At the same time, I'm not convinced the x-pipe will be louder than stock. Can anyone confirm it will be louder?

Straight pipes will give a bit more volume vs x pipe in a turbo car. I did straight pipes, and its a nice tone and volume overall. Gives a bit of turbo whistle, and nice deep growl on acceleration. Nice bark on downshifts. However, its not a super aggressive change, so if you want much louder than stock, it likely won't be enough for you.
Another point to note is that x-pipes purpose is to assist in exhaust scavenging. This is done through balancing exhaust pulses as they cross through the x. In a turbo car there is no pulsing as the turbine combines each bank into a steady diffused exhaust flow. In effect negating the design theory behind x-pipe. An X Pipe will have a milder sound in our cases, but offers no performance benefit vs straight pipe. Turbos just want all the exhaust downstream as fast as possible, so most direct path is always best.

I just don't want to spoil that great AMG sound. Just want more of it. Maybe an H pipe is the way to go. If I remember correctly the stock resonator has a small connection between the two pipes. Not sure about that though.

Straight pipe replacement of resonator will give you exactly that. More of the amg growl and bark. It's a really great change to the tone and volume

straight pipe by taking the resonator and the rear mufflers is a big mistake. thats what i did and lost the amg aggressive sound of the car. I'm switching back to the stock mufflers and taking off only the resantor
