Any High mileage CLS63 out there?

Just curious if any other fellow CLS63 or other m157 owners are on here and how high is your mileage, do you plan on keeping it and if so how long?

I'm asking because my 12 CLS63 is getting kinda high in miles (90k) I am new to mercedes but I have taken really good care of the car all maintenance is up to date I am just trying to get a feel for how long people keep these are they built to last? they seem like they are but keep in mind ive been dailying this car

I am debating if its getting close to the time I trade it in or sell it to get a newer mercedes. what do you guys think? or should I keep it until the wheels fall off?

im not implying in any way that i'm afraid of it breaking down or dying any time soon just tryna see what most people do with theirs.

let me know

thanks

I had an ‘09 E63 until recently, not quite as high mileage as yours but three years older. It was built to last, I probably could have hung onto it for a while longer. AMG motors will run forever if you take care of them and keep maintenance up to date. I would have a good Indy mechanic make sure you don’t have any plastic or rubber parts that have dried out in the engine compartment but otherwise you are likely good for a while.

Not sitting at 90 like yours, but I have also heard many good things about the engine (M157?) being pretty damned bullet proof under care. I'm about to hit 50K and plan on keeping it as long as I can, love this car.....AND it's currently my only Benz.

My CLS has now done 141000kms. Daily driven. Really worried about a major mechanical problem creeping up. Especially since the turbopipe/downpipe upgrade and retune. However, so far so good. Seeing as I daily drive this thing I'll let you know when it breaks down.

That is the main reason I have not tuned my car: was worried it would affect longevity. Hope yours lasts.

you understand exactly how I feel. I love the car so much but i have a constant fear of a major problem arising soon . the engine does seem built well and durable but i am also running a tune. its a hard decision, especially when there arent many really high mileage ones to look at for reference since the car isnt that old

I was thinking of getting a 2012 with about 84k on the dash from a dealer ... 2 owner clean etc. I planned on getting the warranty they provide that covers the most but am still wary of those warranties. Anything to be forewarned getting one of these cars with high mileage if I am getting a 3rd party warranty?

What is the asking price? I really can't think of a thing that has been an issue on these 2012's...........hope it works out for you.

Around 34k but I think I can bring it down to atleast 30k especially since I’m getting their warranty.

I know 2 different people that had their M157 replaced under warranty for high oil consumption. When they inspected the motor there was a bunch of cylinder scoring in each engine. Not sure if this is a common issue or not or will become one like the head bolts in the m156.

Did they have tuned cars? Or other mods that would wear parts faster/harder? Need more info than just 'high oil consumption'.

Thanx

the issue with each was exactly what i stated, high oil consumption. they were just using tons of oil. one of the cars was stock, the other car had all the renntech upgrades (larger turbos, exhaust, etc.) that were installed via a dealer option (the dealer in KC has a program that if you order a new car and select renntech upgrades the car still remains under full warranty).

FWIW i don't think the car being modified or not would lead to cylinder wall scoring that then causes high oil consumption. something had to have let loose somewhere

Just wondering and thank you for the replies. My car asks for oil sometimes..........and I've since learned it isn't unusual, but do understand that some cars were affected by high oil consumption....

Really? Don't think engine mods would/could lead to other issues?

Yes, something let loose: the gas pedal foot

modifications can certainly lead to other issues, but cylinder wall scoring leading to high oil consumption is likely not one of them

perfect time to tell you my experience since mine is over 90k miles now.
I bought it used with around 40k miles on it it had 1 owner it was well kept and i daily drove it and after the warranty I did a tune and upgraded spark plugs and filters and ive been daily driving it as well over the time ive owned it ive never had any issues with the engine the only things ive had to replace were suspension related. however there is a common problem with camshaft position sensors leaking oil into the harness and damaging other parts of the car even the ecu and leaking oil etc I managed to change my sensors just as it barely started leaking so I havent seen any issue so definitely check if theyve done that. the most expensive engine related thing ive had to replace and the only thing was the starter aroud 60k miles I definitely blame the eco mode stop/start function its honestly stupid and i dont use it anymore because it wears down the starter unnecesarily. my car is tuned and it is normal for it to consume oil over time but if it is consuming a lot something is wrong make sure to check it. I would definitely be down to buy a used one high mileage for the right price because I didnt have any issues but make sure you get a pre purchase inspection.

as for the extended warranty

i got the stupid fidelity powertrain warranty they didnt cover crap and it ended up being a waste of the money because i bought their basic warranty and also the fact that nothing went wrong with the car so its really a gamble but if you do get a warranty if you want it to be worth while get the more expensive option. but regardless be prepared to consider that amount as gone anyways because its likely for the car to exceed the warranty without needing any repairs

Yea I was planning on getting the top warranty they offer. Does anyone have any experience with the carmax warranty they appear to cover everything aside from normal wear and tear. But I agree the car has to actually be out of commission for them to do anything with most of these aftermarket warranties. I am surprised the starter was not covered.

My parents friend has a 12 E63, with around over 140k, has done nothin other then scheduled services, he said he adds a quart or so once between oil changes. It runs like a champ & most turbo cars Consume a bit of oil. That’s why I bought my CLS63.

most 3rd party warranty company's DO NOT have any programs for amg cars because they cost a tad bit more fix if something goes wrong...

I picked up an 08 cls63 couple years ago with 59k on it. I have 146,000 miles now it has been reliable but needed normal wear and tear parts replaced. I did motor mounts, valve cover gaskets, all control arms for the front, radiator (leaks by plastic at the bottom), outer tie rods, tires, all brake pads and rotors. I do my own oil changes at 3k miles religiously and have done brake fluid and trans fluid service at dealer. Solid car and still smoke (almost) any car out there unless youre in new Z06 lol. I plan on keeping this baby for a while too

UPDATE

my car just hit 100k miles I still love it. Still seems like this car is lightyears ahead of its time. Knowing what i know now I would definitely buy a higher mileage w218 for under 40k over getting a low mileage one for much more. My whole warranty expired without needing repairs I am impressed how its holding up. mine is tuned as well I love the power Its gonna be tough choosing another car after this but just know I am still satisfied and not in a rush to get a newer car anymore.

I will however be getting an android touchscreen to replace my ugly 2012 model comand system. thatll basically make this a newer version of the car lol

Just out of curiosity. A 2012 Cls63 with 61k miles, but it has a salvage history title. It was caused by a suspension damage. Eveything is all fixed. What would the price range be for this salvage title? He is asking $26k
Please help!
