I am plan to get a new steering wheel for my cls63, i did some research and i found out retrofit a new amg performance steering is possible even for old modle car, but these steering doesnot come with the AMG DRIVE UNIT which are 2 control unit on the steering unit( see the picture). I see someone said it is not possible to retrofit on the old car, is that true? really love these two control unit!
I had interests in the same retrofit for MY19 E63s and asked a dealership and a well known MB mod enthusiast (search CKM and YouTube channel) and was told by both it wasn’t possible.
More than what I would spend on a steering wheel ($2600) but apparently this seller has done it.
It’s not even a complete seamless refit, there’s even a YouTube clip from this guy and he had issues so forget the wheel with the drive unit working too.

oh my bad I didn’t realize that the drive unit is kinda like the mode selector (C, S,S+) built in the steering wheel. That would be sweet if it was possible.
If you want to integrate the AMG Drive Unit controls on your AMG send your VIN to RJ Automotive and they'll tell you if your vehicle's VDM is compatible. If so just install the controls or the new steering wheel with the controls and get the remote coding. However, if your car isn't a late production US MY19 it's likely not capable of of adding this feature.

If u get it they make u upgrade a
wheel and for 40$ 2min and change scres can add AMG thingy at 6 o'clock position .. however I've not been able find the AMD DRIVE UNIT FOR SALE and it'll prob be more than if I had originally spec.i found 1500 $but that's installed i can install myself just need part I have Xentry wis asra epc etc

This is a stock 2020 wheel. I got the AMG drive unit at mbhouse, in Toronto, ON
I dunno why this retrofit so expensive because it cost like 500$ for piece plastic no joke I tried getting one made in China you just need one with large enough room accommodation if the middle portion that's hidden under the steering thingy. I could install myself for pretty cheap except buying the part new is almost 400 alone I dunno i going have see if Mercedes-Benz Ever delivers car it's been built and sitting 2 month if it sit more 3. I might sue them if l don't recieve before 2023 I order like year ago plus what kind bs is this

Bottom line, you vehicle will need a MY20 VDM (vehicle dynamics module) in order for the AMG Drive Unit controls to function.
I have an early MY19 and was told I needed a newer VDM to get that functionality and controls added to my steering wheel. This was determined by VIN.
You'd need to find a Mercedes dealership with a very active and engaged AMG Performance Center, and the associated AMG Specialist there, that will order and install the VDM, steering wheel and complete the necessary coding.
If you do, please let me know. Not saying that it's impossible, just that I haven't put that effort in yet.
