Just ordered a Valentine V1 Gen2.

Just ordered my first radar detector. Never had/used one before. Any advice/tips? Anyone else here have a V1 Gen2? Mostly city driving in the Metro Detroit area.

Thanks!

Omar

Welcome mate. Get it hardwired into your car, to the left of your rear view. I've had one since day 1 and do think it helps. Enjoy!

Hi Billy, I saw that vortexradar highly recommended that app, but unfortunately I have an iPhone. I think he’s an Apple guy too runs a separate android phone just for his V1. Don’t know if I’m going to do all that.....at least not yet.

Once it comes in I’ll probably see how it is then mess around a little with the regular iOS app see how bad it falses. Then once I’m a little familiar move to one of the other 2 apps I saw. I have no clue what to expect because I’ve never had a radar detector before.

I’m hoping it comes in before the end of next week....weirdly excited for it lol.
I did watch some videos on hardwiring, just a little nervous about performing some light surgery on my baby. I like doing this kind of stuff but not really experienced.

Do you by any chance remember which wires? I saw in a video that there were 4 connectors and I think the guy said the switched power is the red wire with a blue stripe on the connector closest to the window. But some ppl said in the comments it didn’t switch off for them....not sure if the vehicle has to go to sleep for it to switch off(Maybe they didn’t wait) vs just the ignition switch.

Sorry, had it done at an indy and didn't see the installation. I'm not exactly the DIY kind of dude lol.

Have had a V1 for many years, love it! Could you post a pic of yours in your car, would like to get some ideas of how to mount this in mine. I have it mounted now using the visor clip and am not a fan of it to be honest.

Thanks!

Word of warning on the upgrade

I've had custom mounts for the Valentine 1 in both my SL65 and my Escalade, mounted to the rearview mirror. Received the new versions today and the mounts have changed, not by much, but by enough that the old mount accessories don't work. Can't believe it... with all the engineering work that goes in that company they did not find a way to make sure the universe of mount accessories that have been built up over the years continued to function.......
