Cancelled my Order
I had ordered the CLS55 with performance package ... and with the input from the members here found out that the car wouldn't be delivered until November. My dealer didn't bother telling me and after calling he confirmed.
This is a huge dissapointment. I would expect a reputable dealer and manufacturer to notify its clients when changes have been made. Unfortunately for Smythe I can't necessarily blame then since they werent notified by mercedes.
As such, I have cancelled my order for a granite grey CLS 55 that should be delivered around early August to SMythe European in San Jose, Ca. Its at MSRP so if anyone wants it ... go get it.
Okay now what should I buy now!!!

Hate to pile on here, but to cancel based on a delay is just plain silly. Best idea is to go find another dealer who might be able to get you what you want sooner, but you will be more than disappointed if you take a pass on the car. Mine was delayed, and I could have ordered a whole host of cars, but "good things come to those who wait."

Am I the only one on Earth that searches Auto Trader.....
There are minimum 15 New CLS55AMG's ready to roll.
NO, they are not going to be exactly what ya want....but then again, "non waiters can't be choosers"
Auto Trader listing of CLS55's

I think the performance package is what the big hub-ub is about, not just the plain CLS55.

Very interesting input from some of you users. I've been a loyal mercedes owner for quite some time.( CLK 430(2), ML430, E320,E55, CL500, and even a 300D)
Other than the fact that the PERFORMANCE PACKAGE is what I really had to have on this car for me to purchase ... there are always the doubts that have been in the back of mind regarding reliability. So add the delay and my fears of realiability I have decided not to purchase. Regarding just the delay ... its not just 3 months its min 5 months. This definitely factored in because we all know that the supercharged 55 motor is being switched out by a NA 6.3 moter. I already got burned when I bought my old '99 E55 when they switched to the supercharged version. Since its a matter of either waiting 5 months for a new CLS55 or waiting 12 months for a CLS63 ...
My comments online were to notify other uses that were purchasing the 030 option that I had confirmed thru my dealer that this option would not be available, on delivered cars, until November-December time frame.
If the quality of mercedes owners has gone this far downhill ... I'm glad to say I'm not a (new) mercedes owner. How sad ... those that had negative comments are starting to sound like a great deal of BMW owners.
Since I decide not to purchase a CLS55 ... that can only leave one more for those that are enthusiastic about it.
BTW, no I have not decided on what car to get now. There truly aren't many cars that can compare. I might wait until the new CLS63, new CL63, M6, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, 997, etc.

Not as crazy as you think!
mw231 - "Top Gear" tested the CLS55 on their road course that they test all their cars on and low and behold the the relatively portly CLS55 was quicker than the GT3 by .1 sec. - Bob
Heres the video, select Top Gear and then CLS55 -

Perhaps you should consult Tom Cruise's shrink for what to buy next

NEW 08' M6 CAB, 06' 997 911 CS CAB, 09' RX350 AWD, 10' E350 4M, 10' Range Rover; FS: 04' C32 AMG= FS
thought i might add a new idea into your mind, if you just want a new car now buy a 997 turbo since its gonna have the all new performance increase and porsche doesnt really touch that section to many times a year (i GOT MY NAME ON THE LIST FOR THE 997 C2S CABRIOLET - delivery for august) but if you got the money and dont mind waiting a little longer for something "exclusive" i would say put your name on a list now for the new CLE63 amg that should be coming out. i already talked to my dealer about it.

Jesseliu...
i believe i may understand your thinking...
why wait 5 months min only to find that waiting somewhat longer would bring the model supplanting what you'd waited for originally? is that a fair interpretation?
and as long as you don't have to get another car -- you have and expect to keep at least one acceptable vehicle -- there's no reason to get something that may ultimately disappoint you. hence, you cancelled. is that also a fair interpretation?
please let me know if i'm off base.

Yes David
Correct that is how I feel.
Chappy : read David's post
schwarzwagen : I shouldn't be upset its more of a damn I want that feel!
AdaMBombC32G : the 997 turbo is a choice but it is on the high end of my budget. I haven't looked into this car yet in detail but I will. Thanks.

Jesseliu...
that's precisely how i feel about getting an SL presently: styling, engines, COMAND, and other equipment are all pending changes.
it bothers me immensely that acquiring any end-cycle model would deal a double depreciation: first, off the lot; second, upon introduction of noticeably changed model.
so, i'll wait. or, i'll find a good, favorably-priced 2004 SL500, hold on to it until predictable changes are done, and bugs are worked out. and then i'll jump into the new model.
IMHO, to acquire now would not be a cogent decision...unless one is entirely unconcerned about costs.

and btw, the 63 is to be AMGs new engine... it will be n/a 6.3liter V8... basically a bored out version of the new 5.5 32v 48 coming out. the good news that i've heard is that it should be considerably less in weight cause of all new material and lack of the "kompressor - supercharger" making roughly 500hp (at least for the higner end models) to match that of the new M5 and M6. TORQUE power im really not sure about but should be at least feasible,
anyway, check out this link
http://www.automobilemag.com/2007_sn...edes_benz_cle/
it says the new 5.5 N/A V8 should have about 390hp, but thats not the special edition i've heard about the "63" which will probably have a little less then 500hp, like the e55 and cls55 have (469hp) compared to the SL, CL and S that have 493hp.
