Dealer says no CLS's are wired for iPods

I just got off the phone w/ my dealer and they told me that my CLS is not "pre-wired" for the iPod kit...WTF? He said they called MBUSA and that they told the shop forman that no CLS's are prewired for iPod only the new M and C classes.

He said that installing it would take them 10hrs or so to retro-fit my car which included removing seats, carpet, dash panels, etc.

Needlees to say I'm pissed.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I just did a W211 kit at Chandler after Schumacher said "it's not possible"

I'll drive the extra 20 miles to Chandler to get competence.

Schumacher it is!

I was thinking the same thing, who did you deal with over there? I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Thanks!

Total BS, IMO. MBusa.com clearly indicates that Ipod kit will be available for CLS as well, I even heard in a different post that the part-# is already published. So ask yourself: Why should Mercedes offer an Ipod kit for CLS-series if the car makes it impossible to integrate? Total BS.

By the way, why do they have to remove the seats to integrate something that will be located in the glovebox? I could climb up the wall if I hear some of these stupid dealers...Who do they think are they talking to? Customers with a brain-damage??????

Damn dude... I can't think of his name.. but he's in parts dept. They charge 2.3hrs labor on W211 and $299 for kit.

We can pay for a Benz (in his case, several!), yet they expect him to just go away and say "ok.. No problem!"

Schumacher has a major head-in-*** problem these days..

I've given them as many chances as I can.. but enough is enough for me.

My dealer called me a couple of weeks a go to let me know the i-pod kit was now available. The car is pre-wired. At least my cls55 is.

It's amazing how much a little mis information can cause so many problems!

The 219 is almost a clone of the 211, electrically speaking. So, if it goes on an E it goes in a CLS!!

I guess that's how dealerships get such a bad name.

NO it is NOT - the cars are NOT prewired for the Ipod kit - the Ipod kit comes with all wiring needed and plugs into any (US spec) W219 easily.

The i-pod is available from the dealer now. Cost is approx $299
I-pod wires into the glove box. All pre-wiring is done. When the i-pod is installed it is integrated into the display screen. The dealer does have to do a computer upload.
Nothing to take apart. Pre-wiring is done.

greetingz,
How much work is involved? 1 hour?

I wish I would have just caught you earlier on my installs and done it with you and saved $250!

There is no prewire needed and no variation between cars getting iPOD fitted and cars with iPOD from factory (which I doubt exists).

Three parts
- ipod cable
- Control module
- intercepting harness for head unit

Which of those parts came from factory .... none. They all come in a white cardboard box and they can all get fitted by a professional in any car according to part number and car model.

No matter which chassis number you have you get the same kit for your car all over the world.

One thing I can add about getting it to work after it is installed. If you already have TeleAid or a phone kit installed, it is completley plug and play.

If you do not have TeleAid or a phone kit installed, there is version coding that has to be done with DAS to enable the "phone" buttons on the steering wheel to become functional.
