130 mph CLS crash on YouTube

I don't know if you guys have seen this, but read the comments, if the guy isn't BSing then this is one amazingly safe car. At 130 mph if you hit a tree in ANY other car you're done for, these guys only suffered a couple of bruises. the car won't be coming back but the dudes walked away it looks like

Broken jaw is nothing compared to what he would have had if he was in any other car if you ask me. Most cars at over 100 mph would keep you in the ICU for weeks.

I think surviving a crash like that at a speed like that is just pure luck in any car. Kinda like this one: https://mbworld.org/forums/off-topic/175956-corvette-157-mph-888-foot-slide-tree.html

Either that or a VERY short stay in ICU...

A broken jaw is more than just a few bruises. He's lucky to be alive, thanks to the Benz. A broken jaw is not as bad as you'd think. Minimal scarring on the inside of your mouth. People do not see the fixtures, screws, and plates. People will notice the lack of 2 fingers though. That's the real bummer since he can't do this....

Surviving any accident past 100mph is luck. Crash tests are done mostly at 30mph, as speed builds kinetic energy multiplies exponentially. The passengers caught a nice break, you won't be hearing a lot of stories from people who didn't make it out of high speed crashes.

That's very true. It's like how earthquakes are measured on the richter scale.

Yup, kinetic energy=m(v)squared all divided by 2. V standing for velocity.

Okay okay this is great. So I contacted the guy that made the video through youTube and here is the conversation. AMAZING, he rolled the car 4 times:

I wrote to him: Is this for real? Were you really in this car? I own the same car and I just can't believe that anyone survived such a crash. Did the car flip over? How fast were you going on impact? What country is this in?
>
He wrote back, and I quote:
YEAH THIS IS DEFFINATELY TRUE. WE WERE GOING DOWN A LOCAL STREET, DRIVER FELL ASLEEP, FOORED THE PEDAL. THE STREET ENDED, WE RAN INTO A WHAREHOUSE PARKING LOT, HITTING A TREE @ 137MPH, DEAD ON. IF U REALLY DO OWN A CLS 55, YOU KNOW IT HAS A TYPE OF BLACK BOX, LIKE AIRPLANES MORE OR LESS, THAT RECORDS ANYTHING BEFORE IMPACT. ONCE WE HIT THE TREE, WE ROLLED OVER 4 TIMES, ACCORDING TO WITNESSES. LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. I SHOT THAT VIDEO ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER. WE'RE IN QUEENS, NEW YORK. UNITED STATES.

Must have been a small tree that was flattened.

An instant decelleration from 130MPH to even 30MPH would be fatal even if you were surrounded by pillows.

I do believe that the upper model cars are safer, but surviving a crash at such incredible speeds is just dumb luck.

Dumb luck is correct. 137 mph is a very high pace of speed and may kill anyone in any type of car.

Hell, I still think the old W140 S-classes are one of the safest tanks on the road, but Princess Diana's driver still managed to kill everyone inside.

stupid question: is that black box thing true? can the dealer really see how fast you've taken your car? or does it just store data before impact? is it on all MB's?

"A Mercedes-Benz product"
I remember in one of my classes that the forces of a car hitting a wall @ 40 mph (e.g. crash test) has a force of a few million pounds at the impact point!!!

If that's true, that is amazing...

The fact that it was an MB had nothing to do with them still being alove. Look at the car as it is in the shape of a U. The whole car is bent up and the passenger seat is now where the front axle and motor lie. Do you really think that the passenger was ok after that crash and that he stayed IN the car the whole time? I think the only way he could have lived was if he was projected out fo the car and rolled a bit. There is no place for a living creature in that car in the passenger front seat.

The fact that they lived is 100% luck. All that force could have ripped their heads off.

Go looka t wrecked exotics or some of those other fairly gross sites that show people in cars after crashes like that. They dont live... and if they do its luck from above.

The body guard made it out. I believe he was the only one wearing a seat-belt.

i have seen some crazy accident cars at auctions when i used to go to them on a weekly basis, some cars are stronger than others, but at anything that high speed is just pure luck to be alive no matter in what car you're in

long time ago I bought an audi a4, very light fender bender front and back bumpers, but airbags poped, driver's airbag still had lipstick on it

Yep, your thoracic aorta would shear appart and you would bleed an ungodly amount internally. Pillows or no pillows.
