Angry My New CLS63 had to be towed in...

Today, at the store with my wife, got in the car to go home, put my foot on the break, pushed the start button, shifted into DRIVE....THE DAMN CAR'S GEAR WOULD'T CATCH...Shifted into Reverse...same thing...it wouldn't catch...as I stepped on the gas, the engine would rev, it would try to go into gear...but couldn't!!!

What is going on?????

I am so ticked!!! This is my 1st Mercedes (I was a BMW guy) - I NEVER had anything of the sort happen with any of my BMWs!!!!!!

Is this the quality of Mercedes or is this a fluke?

Guessing it's a fluke, but please let us know how it turns out. Sounds like a nightmare. Hope it's nothing. Did you try putting the key in the ignition .

If you think BMW's don't have issues like this go check out M5board and read all about BMW's much maligned SMG.
There are numerous accounts of M5's with the same type of tranny issues, M5's dying in the middle of the road, etc.

But MB has had some issues with the 722.9 tranny , maybe a valve body, or you may just have a POS.

One thing is for sure modern Mercedes or BMWs are not built the same way they used to , both brands overall quality has decreased steadily since the early 90's.

By the way MB was rated better than BMW on JD Power for the last 2 years!

neither of them "suck", the m5 has a beatiful high reving v10 thats capable of reeling you back in up over 150 mph, AMG has some of the most powerful production engines on the planet

oh and I would hardly use Porsche as the ultimate "no substitute" car, such remarks should be reserved for the true elites (saleen s7 twin turbo extreme edition, Bugatti Veyron, etc)

OO7 CLS63///G55TANK ///S80-T6///R1///R6
Thats sad man, but dont get the rong impression, mercedes is very reliable. Thats all i owned since I could remember. The same thing happened to my G class but I let it sit there for an hour and it worked fine. I didnt think much of it being that its a tank not a car and it never happened again. good luck

It's not so much about parts of the car that are great, but overall durabilityand reliability. Porsche excells in that area and Benz and BMW suck at it lately. Unfortunately, since all cars are a lot of fun to drive in their respective ways.

Dealer called this morn...said it was a simple part that needs to be replaced...they had to order it...but due to President's Day, Mercedes was closed...wouldn't be able to get the part in until Wed...should have my car back late Wed.

I'll be sure to post the exact details once I speak to them personally on Wed.

Well that's good news. What could this little part be? I am guessing it's the sensor that tells the car you have the brakes pressed in, or the one that tells it the car is not moving. Or one of the thousands of other sensors.

Perhaps you'd care to elaborate? I wouldn't want to jump to conclusions and say that you're basing your opinion on your personal experiences and those you've taken the time to read about in forums. That would be a bit like judging the outcome of the next election based on a survey of everyone in your neighborhood. So... what exactly is it you're basing this claim on? JD power stats? consumer report stats? Maybe you have your own national polling system?

Yeah sorry to hear about that aswell, hopefully the fix goes as planned.

sorry for all the offtopic posts guys, just feel the need to defend our cars when someone uses a childish slur against them, it's a childish impulse of mine

I'm basing my statement on JD Power Stats, consumer satisfaction reports, personal experiences, what I read in forums and on the web, from talking to Mercedes workplace and dealership employees, what I hear from fiends with BMWs and Porsches. That mixed with some common sense and relativity (gras always greener etc.) lead me to that conclusion.

Personal experience is covered by ownership of 7 Mercedes-Benz vehicles (from pretty common to pretty exclusive) in the last couple of years.

FWIW

Something minor

I too hate seeing the general "Slam the Benz" comments.

Like all things complicated. They have issues. Your tranny
issue will be one of those ditzy little sensors that just
went bad. Thats what the warranty is for. Yes it is a pain.

Like my Benz SA says. I have seen it all. Some cars are cursed.
Most are not. But overall these are great cars.

Perspective. My partners Ford Exploder. 3rd tranny in 70K miles.
The dealer bent him over for about $ 3000.00 this time.
AAmco got him for $ 2500.00 last time. And the thing still shifts
like crud. That truck is cursed.

"JD Power Stats, consumer satisfaction reports" care to share your finding with us?

I tried JD power website for the cls55 and got inbetween "better than most" and "amongst the best", then a search on the 2006 carrera coup came up with... THE SAME EXACT RESULT

I'm not one to jump to conclusions but I'm starting to think your pulling this info out of a dark brown hole somewhere.

I was referring to overal brand not specific models.

Read this for example: Porsche, Hyundai score big gains in J.D. Power quality survey

Free advise: Try to keep it tasteful over here.

+1 on some cars just being cursed. I had my W211 for 3 years. Overall, even though it has some minor bs wrong with it, I only had one issue with power steering. Nothing major.
However there were people that hardly got to drive their car cause it was in the shop almost once a week. From dead battery to dead engine to dead tranny... Afterall is said and done, some cars are just cursed.

Next time I buy the entire Mercedes fleet I'll check the overall stats. Untill then I'm happy with the fact that my '06 CLS55 rated as high as the '06carrera coupe.

BTW: I didn't see anything distastefull, just hilarious, I'm still cracking myself up over here.

Right, you are quite the comedian. Well, at least one person thinks you're funny, that is a good start

never claimed to be a comedian, just wanted you to back up your opinions with data, like you did finally in the last reply, but hey, if I happen to crack myself up in the process, thats just an added bonus
