Oil at tail pipes!

8800 miles. I got "check oil level at next refueling" message today. Also I noticed a lot of wet black oil in tail pipes! could this be a normal issue with the cls 63 or should I start thinking "BIG PROBLEM!" Take a look at your pipes.. Any input?

It's normal. I got that too and took it to service afterwards. They put some oil and its good to go.

are you sure it is oil and not just a bit of wet, black exhaust soot from normal driving?

It isn't oil on the pipes, but just residue from the dirty fumes. As for the oil, your turbo's will eat it up a bit.

I am pretty sure it's not oil. Swipe some of it on your finger, it it is dry, it's black soot and you're runnning a little rich, if it's moist then you MAY have a manifold leak. "May" is a very qualified and cautious word. There is no way for me or anyone to definitively tell for sure from vague descriptions.

take it in and let the dealer run a timing diagnostic, and correct it if it runs rich. But most cars do have "things" coming out the exhaust.

I got the check engine oil level at next refueling message yesterday at 1800 miles. I figured this was the car pre programmed to tell me to go in for the introductory service before 2k miles. I am scheduled to go in early next week, does anyone think I should be at all concerned from the message?
