cost of Accessories

how much does the cd changer cost??
Went to the dealer yesterday and he said t would cost 512kd (Kuwaiti dinars) and 120 kd for labor. IF it helps here is a link to a currency converter

http://www.e-gulfbank.com/curr_calc.asp

Now my question is this:

-I have a 2006 cls 55, which has the Ipod thing, but have never used it, and need to find the connection wire for it. male to male i believe its called yes?

-I am using the dvd player to play mp3 (loads of songs in one dic)

is the changer worth it
even the bloody amg door sills cost 400kd odd and not sure if that counted labor

my main reason for eeking is because it will cost me an other 50kd to register the car with the dealer to. now if i were to add these all up i am looking at moding money!!!

If you get the Ipod plug, you will rarely use a CD changer, so I'd save your money wit that. A $10 plug gets you Ipod music, you will only be able to control the ipod manually, if you want the OEM setup you have to buy the kit and have the dealer install it, which costs about $600 US. As for the door sills you can buy them here for $150 www.formymercedes.com and install them yourself with my directions seen here..https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...eekend+project

OK I went through it again and here are the things i am not sure about.

These are paragraphs from you post, text in blue are my questions, if you could help me please

"This plug was replaced by the one from when the dealer installed the Ipod kit. Plug this back into the command, now leaving the Ipod kit plug just hanging around, it won't be needed. This plug is the one that connects to the headphone plug in the glove box. This will increase the sound and clarity."

From what I understand from reading it again, you are removing the ipod connecter the dealer installed in the command unit yes?
And re-plugging the head phone one for the glove compartment???
How does the ipod work when you get it installed from the dealer? Is it not through the glove box?

'You will need a wire that has two headphone jacks, one on each end. One end plugs into the Ipod headset, and the other plugs into the jack in the glove box.'

I seem to have this hole in my glove box

'When you unplug the Ipod kit connector from the bottom of the Ipod you can then adjust your volume and EQ settings, I went through all of the settings, and the best sound for my taste was actually the Classical setting. Although I don't listen to classical, I listen to Modern Rock, old school rap from back in the day and modern R&B. The treble was perfect, and then I use the setting on the comand to increase and decrease the Bass. Also sound level adjustment is off, and volume is cranked up all the way.
Now the next best thing is if your on a road trip, or your passenger just wants to be a DJ for the night, simply unplug the Ipod connector and you will lose the steering wheel function, but since its plugged directly into the headphone jack you can use the Ipod freely.
That's it low volume problem solved, and now you have a DJ '

Where does the 'Ipod kit connector from the bottom of the Ipod' come from? As I just see a hole in the glove box, to plug something in

The CLS does not come with Ipod kit installed, it does come with that AUX jack that you see in your glove box. You have 2 options, if you want to control your Ipod with you steering wheel controls, and keep it charged then you have to purchase the kit and have a dealer install it. Takes about 3-5 hours for the install. Option 2 is to just use the headphone jack that I am referring to, plug one end in the ipod the other into the jack in the glove box, then go to your stereo and select AUX, you will then get sound. Downside is, wire hanging out of glove box, you have to change songs by holding the Ipod, and you need to keep it charged.
My recommended fix applies after the dealer has installed the kit.

Makes more sense now, was confused why you were removing the dealer plug. Now i see that the glove compartment serves two roles:
  • AUX jack
  • Dealer ipod kit

Now i might as well go for the ipod kit (if i do not have it) and tell the dealer that I want the head phone plug in the command unit at the back and not the ipod kit one, when they install it yes?

just a few silly question
is there any way to check if i have the ipod kit installed?
Do you get the ipod bottom connector when they install the kit? (would explain why i do not see it)

Thanks in advance

You hit the nail on the head, correct!

just a few silly question
is there any way to check if i have the ipod kit installed? Well you would see the ipod connector if you did, if you bought the car it does not have one.
Do you get the ipod bottom connector when they install the kit? (would explain why i do not see it) Yes

Thanks in advance
Also this guys sells them for the cheapest price on the internet, I'm sure he can ship out of the country.
