I really need your opinions on this
ok,so I bought the CLS 550 for about a year now. Soon after I paid 79 k in total for the 550, I realized I should have gotten the 55 or the 63. During the year, I have always contemplated about getting some mods done for it, but as I asked around, the complete AMG kit, plus rims and converting those ugly yellow lights to bi-xenons, and some engine tuning would cost around 10.5 k to 20 k minimum. My question is, based on how much you guys paid for your brand new or used 55s/63s , do you guys think there is a possibility that I might be able to trade my 550 in for a 55 or 63 with 20 k? Do you guys think it's worth it to do so? If 20k is too low, at least how much do I have to pay to make my dream come true? I would really appreciate it if you guys can tell me all you know as I am really eager to own an AMG. Thx in advance.

forget moding the 550, save your money - come up with additional 30k and trade in your 550 for a used AMG. it's worth every penny. 20k maybe too low, depending on your trade in value, unless you sell it privately. that may get you an extra 4k or 5k.

i would trade in and get an amg and forget moding.
Heck if you want an AMG, the E55 used markit are going for some silly prices in the states, easliy achivaible with a trade in for a CLS550.
If you want a CLS55/63 might be a little more pricy look around and ask and see what you get offered
No harm in asking
& good luck

Best of luck to you, just wanted to chime in since I did the same with my wifes car... the slk350... for her its actually good cause its not as stiff as the slk55, but had i bought it for me... i would be craving an slk55 now...
ive been looking high and low for deals on used 55's or 63's... the prices are almost comparable... used 55's with under 20k miles are around 75-79k and a used 63 is around 85k (5kmore)..

Since you are local. there's alot you can do. i have a friend who works for Fletcher jones, did something similiar for me, but i traded a Porsche for a Used CLS55. i took a small hit on the trade in value, and roll it into my new car loan. i put less than 10k down for the 55. so i am sure 20k will be plenty to get into a cls55. pm me if you want his info. he help out a few of my friends in similiar transaction.
but yes, with 20k. you can easily walking out of your 550 into a used 55

Gosh with the price gap between the 55 & 63 closing maybe I should wait and get the 63??
I wanted white but looks like people want too much for the white, I also like the silver so maybe thats where I'll end up.

both 55 and 63 are great cars. i've driven both, but i ended up liking the 55 motor. but the 63 have the new gears, and paddle shifters. go test drive both, 55 are much cheaper than a 63 right now !!!!

With all the aftermarket upgrades or OEM parts, it's still not an AMG. By the time you have gotten all the parts you stated, you'll only have to save up a few more $$'s to get the AMG. I say if you can get some extra $$$ go for the trade in and get the AMG. I bet you will not regret the move.

I leased a brand new cls550 last year, and every time I would see an AMG I started crying...Literally.
So I traded in the 550 for my 63 - brand new out of the dealer...I was upside down $8k and I put $5k down, so I rolled into the 63 $3k...My payment went from $1373 on the 550 to $1860 on the 63...Well worth every penny, almost 10 months later and I'm still in love with it. DO IT!!!
