alignment
winterizing the car: I'll be replacing the HRE's with stock wheels. For alignment do you guys think I should take the car to Firestone or should I bite the bullet and take it to MB for $260 ( yes 260). Does MB have any "special" equipment vs. other places, or is it not all that complicated.

You may...
You could take it to a Benz repair facility rather than the dealer. I use Butler Tire here in Georgia, they give better balance and alignment jobs than any dealer, at about half the price. They perform a high speed balance on the car at 100MPH, and a full digital alignment for about $160 altogether.
Otherwise...take it to a Benz dealer. DO NOT LET JUST ANYONE DO IT! LoL!
Like they said, do it right.

Since CLSs have adjustable riding height, the standard grease monkey alignmnet rack doesn't do the job correctly.
Pay the $$ and do it right.

a car that gets very poor gas mileage.
I forget the name of the apparatus, but there's the laser equipped alignment unit. That should be the only one you use on these cars.
