So pissed!

I caught my rear passenger wheel on a curb that was sticking out this morning.
Scratched the lip on the rim pretty good.It looks like the alignment is off now.Actually I know it is.My steering wheel is turned to the left now while the car is going straight. So f-in stupid.
I hope I didnt bend any rear suspension parts.
Now I really have to pick out new rims

did the same thing to the wife's SLK 4 months ago, Rim wasn't that hard to fix ($35), but the steering problem cost me... the steering wheel did the same thing as yours...

dealer had to put a bolt kit to fix it, then re-align etc etc... $390.00

pics of damage & fix...

So i am confused. You hit the REAR wheel and your steering wheel is cocked one way to go straight? Did you also hit with the front end?

As for the 6k comment that everyone has gone ape sh*t over what basis do we have to say he is getting raped. He has not said what happened. So say his car needs 2 wheels, a steering rack, and some rear suspension arms? Thats easily 6k installed.

Call me lame but I get frustrated with everyone trying to tell people the dealership is always screwing them. Comments like that are normally unfounded and in this case there is no factual info to come to that conclusion.

The poster here is clearly frustrated and hearing he is getting screwed is not helping.

No one ever wants to have to pay for damage to a car but when things happen people its fair for a business to charge you a profit to get the job done. We all make a decent living to afford these cars and that means we are charging someone a PROFIT to get things done. The car business is no different. We all need to make a living!

This is very true but it all depends on what they had to do, and if they are replacing wheels or not. if he hit the rear end and knocked it in it could push the car thats why he has to drive with the wheel turned. im guessing he wont know what parts he needed till he picks up the car

Well comments like that are still unfounded. Can you PROVE anyone is getting screwed? Labor is what it is 100-135 depending on region of the country and parts are set by MB really. So when book labor rates and parts add up to a figure is that getting screwed?

Before people accuse a company of screwing people facts should be shown. Plus in this case the poster just gets all enraged if everyone makes false statements that make him over react.

Its even worse on the sale side. People want to pay back of cost on all new cars and that leaves nothing to pay a sales person and keep the lights on. MB has gotten into a sad situation where there is to much interdealership competition and no one makes money on sales in some regions. Lexus makes a killing on cars being sold but you dont see everyone saying they are screweing customers.

Well very true that is why i asked what the impact was like. If a car is crab walking so badly that the steering wheel needs to be turned to go straight the rear suspension is SERIOUSLY damaged and could easily require 6k in work.

A good service writer should walk you through the bill in a situation like this. When a tech gives the writer the bad news its a list of parts and a list of labor times as per MB book labor rates. So he has the data right there and that data should be passed on to a customer. Some customers dont want to hear it all since it can be complicated if you are not a "car person" but yes the info should be at least volunteered. If its just a call saying "it will cost 6k" and then not even offering to explain charges that is wrong.

I just like knowing the facts before making blanket statements about being taken advantage. Im sure you understand that!

Hi Guys
I hit the rear passenger tire on a 90 degree curb that was sticking out while pulling in front of a building. Very stupid move on my part.
I wasnt going more then 5-10 mph. The rear rim has a rash on it prob about 6 inches long. There is absolutly no damage to the front suspension.
If you look at the rear wheel you can visually see that it is in probably 10 degrees pointing into the car facing forward. That is why the steering is turned to the left while driving. If I straighten out the steering wheel the car pulls to the right very bad.
When the service rep told me 6k I almost *****.I told them forget about it and i was going to take it to other dealer or shop for estimate. The other dealer wouldnt give me a loaner and I dont have to much free time to chase this debacle around. So Im putting it through my insurance.
As for the parts they are changing he mentioned wheel berings torsional bars and some other crap.New wheels are not included.Im sure im getting ripped off but my deductible is 1g I can live with that.

Its a hard bullet to bite my man, 1k is still better than 6k I hear you.. a lot of us have done something similar in the past, it just had a slightly worse impact in your case.

it will make you turn wider next time at least. has done that to me, I get a flash back reminder everytime I try to squeeze through a tight space...

i know when i had my clk i needed a new hub bering i think the time for labor was 2.5 hrs per side but then again it was a clk and not a cls. it does sound a bit costly for parts and labor but when you get the list of parts i can look up the install times, and prices for you. also this is what insurance is for we pay alot of money for what if.
