might thinking of getting a CLS after having an SLK..

well, couple days ago my brother just had an accident on the SLK... it was other driver fault running red light. But thank god we paid for what we got, the littest MB(other than "Smart ForTwo") was able held up 40MPH+ side impact.. but send the car flip and flying

so my dad might still want to get another Mercedes because that's what they are for

i always love the look of the CLS is soo unique which made none of other brand can caught up with.
this time my dad might consider a CLS or the new S class. They are almost similar in price, which do you guys think is better and why?

CLS...definitely. sexiest car.

its up to ur dad if he wants the sporty, edgy feel / look which would be the CLS or the classy, elegant S class.

Was your brother injured at all? What type of vehicle struck his? And who verified the collision speed? A 40mph side impact, right on the door like that, is some serious business...

With options, you're still looking at something like a $20-30k difference in price from a CLS to S. The S is clearly the better made car - go to a dealership and sit in each vehicles' drivers' seat for all of ten seconds to confirm this yourself.

If you're going to make the purchase for your brother, you should start with test driving each vehicle and go from there. I suspect you'll find that S has a far more refined interior, amazing ride, and almost absurd amounts of interior room. The CLS has a great but not S level interior, nice ride, but doesn't have the build quality of an S (and really, how many cars DO have the build quality of an S?).

Man...hope your brother is okay. Where in the bay area did that happened?
I also had a hard time picking between CLS and S, but I went with the CLS instead because 1. I like the body style of the CLS more than the S, 2. I can get a CLS 63 AMS versus the S550 for similar prices, and 3. The S feels too big and I don't need all that back seats.

CLS is arguably the sexiest car on the road still to this day. throw performance and some nice shoes and you should have your answer.

I've heard that the S is pretty much the safest non-SUV car on the road. Anyone confirm this? And is there any safety info for the CLS?

Test details:
The Mercedes E class was re-engineered for the 2007 model year with an emphasis on improving occupant protection in side impact crashes. Frontal ratings are assigned by the Institute based on a test conducted by Mercedes as part of frontal crash test verification. http://www.iihs.org/ratings/frontal_test_info.html
(the Institute's 40 mph offset test, 40 percent of the total width of each vehicle strikes a barrier on the driver side)

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the roof rail.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.

Additional features:
Side airbags: front and rear head curtain airbags, front seat-mounted torso airbags, and rear door-mounted torso airbags
Rollover sensor: designed to deploy the side curtain airbags in the event of an impending rollover
Automatically adjusting head restraints in front seats move up or down as seats are adjusted forward or rearward

Programmable daytime running lights

The Mercedes CLS is roughly the same size as the E-Class sedan, with which it shares a number of major components. Yet the CLS-Class features fewer variants than the E-Class and it occupies a higher range on the price scale, with more standard luxury equipment. What distinguishes the CLS most readily from other Mercedes sedans is its four-seat cabin and gorgeous exterior styling. It comes in two varieties: powerful and crazy powerful.

2008 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class. When it comes to shaking up the luxury car world, no amount of power, technological sophistication or supple leather in the cabin can top an alluring design. More stunning in person than even the most flattering photography might suggest, the coupe like Mercedes CLS-Class has a visual presence that few other luxury sedans can match. And that is something that's not likely to change for some time to come.
