is there any problem in driving the car as soon as it starts without warming up the engine? I know on my previous turbo'ed and supercharged cars this would be a big problem. is the cls55 different? i.e. does it have a buitl in engine warmer like the 7 series?

Depends on your def of "going"

No need to let the car idle. In fact, that's the worst way to warm up your car as none of the other components like drive train get a warm through. Get in it and drive off. Drive with restraint until the temp meets half or nearly there. Should take 3miles, 5 minutes or thereabouts.

in your Mom's car
I've always been told that the general rule is to wait till the rpm's get below 1000 then you are good to go. Gives the oil time to circulate. Only takes a min or two.

Interesting comment from another M5 owner. The M5 owner's manual has very specific recommendations re allowing the engine temp to reach warm-up certainly prior any near-vigorous driving.

Same here...And I also let it get to about 60-80 temp before driving aggressively.

I usually just start it up and wait for the initial high idle to go down to normal then drive off. As I wait I put the seat belt on, pick a radio station, set climate temp, etc. By the time I'm done it's good to go. I do this even in the dead of the Michigan winter too.

I also always wait until the coolant temperature reaches 80. Even though the coolant temp. is at 80+ (MBs warm up incredibly fast) I still wait a little before even going near WOT to let any other fluids warm up.
