Chrome wheels not cool?
Hi. i am new to this web site and i just bought a 06 cls 500 with 18" silver amg wheels and the wife wants chrome wheels and i found the same wheels in chrome but i am getting the feeling from what i am reading that it is not the way to go. Looking for opinions, thanks.

I think a lot of people think chrome wheels look too cheap on this car, I would tend to agree. To get an idea of what's in style, I'd go to the vellano website and search their website for "cls". That's a pretty good example of what wheels are popular currently for this car, I'd say.

On a CLS, you usually see Forged Wheels if you look at the pic stickies on this webbsite and others... Why...? I'm assuming most CLS owners are slightly more affluent and can afford Forged wheels on a daily driver... I don't think Chrome Wheels are totally dead but not at the forefront of most modders choices these days... If you like the Chrome look, look over the Polished Aluminum wheels on any of the popular wheel vendors sites... I looked over thousands of wheels when recently deciding to buy a set for my E500... Went with a Cast Wheel in Polished lips and Black Painted centers but I had a hard time passign up several Forged wheels...

Naw, them thar is sillver! Kinda lookie like chromie in the pic, tho!!
On a serious note: chrome wheels suck! Way back when when I first started driving they were popular, and man, they'd always pit and rust...I couldn't believe that they made a comeback, which means one thing: disco can't be far behind!!!

I like a chrome lip. I think a chrome face on a wheel is out of style. My new wheels will be way different.
But I still like em, even though most people don't any more.
Improviz, are you Carribean ?

Chrome wheels...
I had the original AMG wheels chromed and not too much bling. They looked pretty good but I liked the Vellanos better.

Thanks for the kind words.
Did not do a baseline dyno unfortunately, but did a third gear pull last year that showed 440RWP. Been meaning to go back and do a fourth gear pull.

It really depends on the type of wheel. If its a cheap 1 piece cast wheel with that blotty looking chrome then yes in this case chrome wouldn't be cool. Now if its a quality forged multipiece wheel and you use the right style then chrome would work out just fine. For me, I always choose Brushed with a chrome lip, can't go wrong with that!!!
