ok i was able to have the oem diffuser removed without damaging the piece. i cant believe how they charge so much for that thin and flimsy piece of plastic. anyways i have given it to my friend to have the mold made and then he will use that to make a CF version for us.
here's a pic of my car's semi naked rear end

Hard part over, I have the data and can now be creative have incorporated the 2 fixing points and more can be added if needed. The portion on the bumper below the OEM insert has to go to get this to look right. The fin sizes will be confirmed when i get some dims from a C63 or CL later in the week.

it s always a great thing to see people willing to work
but ..are you thinking at an add on part ?
because, imho, the best look would be if it were a substitution part, which on the other hand entails cutting the current diffuser

I want to keep the amount of cutting to a min so only the painted lower section below the insert goes. The upper section of the CF part is bonded like the black insert, and the lower section via the 2 fixing points. cut line is shown on the good gentlemans car below.

Thanks, I had a closer look at a C63 and i think this design is moving towards current. In Cf i think this would look very well on the back end. Cost plays a part in this all, the CF insert is a simpler cheaper repalcement part but I think there would still be an interest in one with fins.

I need some help, still waiting on my guy to send me some pics of the damaged rear bumper which i am told now has no diffuser, it may still have enough to use for testing the fitment. Does anyone know of anybody who may have a damaged rear bumper i could buy? in case this one too far gone.
As soon as I have a bumper i can test on ( as I need to cut the lower section ) I will 3D machine the diffuser and hand it over to the CF guys. What do you think of the concept? nows the time to speak up!

Thanks, I took the insert off my bumper today, comes off really easy . Infact as you can see it should pop straight back on. I wanted it off anyway, on a black car i think they are better. I really need a rear bumper now to go forward so keep your eyes open. Does anyone know the procedure to removing the rear bumper?, I could do this if anyone can give me some pointers?

The mould would be based on this design, based on a C63. I am waiting for the guys who make the tooling to get me a cost. Because its a custom part they have to make an overlay tool for the CF process, not as simply as making a rep of a OEM part. I am expecting to pay approx $1500 for the tool, but the more CF parts I can get them to make, the better the price per piece. I think i will keeping going and keep you updated.

a car that gets very poor gas mileage.
mcma1,
Just chiming in to say I like the rendition based off of the C63 diffuser better.
I would seriously consider something like this based on price, ease of installment, and of course, a picture of the final product.
Great project you've got. Good luck.

I am all in for a carbon fiber replacement of part #20 instead of the black strip that is there now. Any addition of wings or fins and I am out. Anybody know if this GB is for a carbon fiber exact replacement of the stock part or is this for a custom diffuser with a different look??
