Thanks man. Paul just shipped it, so I should have it on the car by next Wednesday.

I kinda like the fins between the spaces.

The distronic system was not installed in my car, so it will not work. But I really like the look of it. Cost $750 for the overlay.

but then if you do not have it. then it is for looks

also the fact you are blocking an air inlet with it been covered...but i guess performance is not what you are after, and it might be that effecting

looking forward to pics

I'm really not sure how it works. There are no wires behind the grille comming from the emblem. Is Distronic a wireless system ? I also learned that you can buy the Distronic emblem and pop it into any grille. I've seen some take in water and look yellow or faded after a couple of years. My car stays away from the elements so I'm not that worried about it.

It's really for looks, however, when I first saw this grille on a CLS it was on a CLS55. Would the distronic grille affect performance on this car ? I don't think it would make a difference. But I really have limited education when it comes to performance anyway, lol.

I am planning on getting a supercharger. Kleeman is on the top of my shopping list right now.

sorry but really can't get how you are worrying about the distronic working or not depending on the material of the front grill

imho, it can't be noway affected by it.
I'll tell you more: I think the emblem has only a protective function, to avoid that small insects will impede the distronic coverage.
I can further tell you for sur ethat it is quite sensitive to this problem because last summer I was near the port of Venice where it is well known there are a lot of insects ... suddenly my cluster warned about Distronic malfunctioning .. go to Service and so on ..
I was already angry about all these electronic things when I recalled the insects issue; stopped the car and the emblem actually had a certain quantity of those attached (but not so many indeed) .. I cleaned .. started again and everything was OK.

... as soon I'll receive my modules, I'll drive the car without grill and emblem(as it is under the same carbon work now) and I'll tell you but I'm quite sure it will work.

I like Distronic a lot .. I like playing with it, I don't often use it in full operating mode (except in highway) but I always have its alarm function on: in this way especially on normal roads I get alerted in case a car or something suddenly enters my area
.. I find it helps me a lot, maybe because I'm a very distract person
even when I drive crazy glued to other cars I often keep it on ... just to remember me I m driving crazy

I didn't explain correctly: I don' t mean to make it without vertical fins.
fact is that when stock, those fins have a black plastic cover sticked onto them.
I see now you don't have anymore those black things ... maybe your fabricator will put on later or maybe they wil not stick anymore because the fin got too thick.
I was wondering about making them silver ... but finally I'm convinced to keep the Black.

or .. any ideas ?

The grille is OEM from the dealer. You will need to provide you own grille and pay the $750.

I think they layed CF over the black fin covers. The fin covers are glued onto the grille and will snap if you try to remove them. I tried pulling them off and they felt like the wanted to snap.

.. I was thinking the same as you
I thought there were some connections between that strange emblem and the distronic control
indeed, .. nothing !

this is all you have on the emblem backside:

I'm sure you can get it done to the E class. As a matter of fact, there are different grilles available for the E, and some with the MB emblem on it.

I prefered the original AMG grill because there were no crome strips on it. This way you can get more Carbon fiber on display.

Another idea of mine was to buy the new 2009 grill, then paint it white, and only put carbon fiber over the two chrome strips on it.

I almost bought one of those AMG grilles on ebay to do the job, but the chrome strips come on those, so I had to pass on them.

This mod will take approx 3 weeks or a month to be done, and Paul at IGT offered great costomer service.

Thumbs up on the grille. From looking at this thread, and threads from other boards, it seems that IGT automotive does pretty good work.

That's true. Looking into it. But I'm cool for now. Waiting on a oem carbon fiber trunk spoiler. And I'm buying the 2009 side mirrors.
