MBH E55/CLS55 Headers Group Buy
Ok, Boys and Girls, a while back I was contemplating to get a set of headers made for my E55 by a local shop, but after talking to the shop and much thinking, I don't think it'll worth it. Plus shortly after that I discovered that MBH have some headers very close to what I want, so why not give them a try. MBH even go as far as warranty if you don't gain 40whp over your set up they'll refund your money. MBH is a sponsor on MBworld too, so it's a win-win situation. I figured I owe it to them to try their headers out. The detail of the group buy is below via Hooleyboy.
"Group buy info for 4 sets.. If you get get to 6 buyers then I can knock the price down even lower. The cost would be $3100 and then $40 for shipping. Headers include test pipes with 02 bungs and a set of vband clamps. If you can get 6 or more I can do $2999."
Please let get this rolling. These are couple good points of why getting the headers is a good thing for your car
-The headers will help your car breath a lot easier.
-They'll free up the horsepower that's already there, unlike an over size pulley that make your engine and supercharger work harder.
-The car will sound a lot better too.
I'll be the first on the list:

The only headers on the market that bold-in are shorty headers. When going with a long tube style header and the way Mercedes sections their exhaust systems, you would need a lot more piping to reach the nearest clamp.
the Test pipes mate to the headers via Vband clamps (included with the headers). The test pipes then bolt into the mounting brackets of the stock system, beside the transmission.
To install the headers and test pipes. you will have to remove the stock manifolds and drop the front section of the exhaust that is connected to the primary cats. After you have the headers and test pipes installed. A simple cut of the stock system will allow the remaining stock section of pipe to slip into the rear of the test pipe. You then can either clamp the rear of the test pipe to the stock exhaust however I recommend a simple weld.
Fort eh DIY'ers out there You can install this by yourself then once the stock exhaust pipe is slipped onto the test pipe and o2 plugged back in you can drive the car to an exhaust shop and have them in a weld to completely seal the pipes.
PLEASE NOTE all of the below:
Do NOT weld on your car with the battery connected. It can ruin your car's ECU and other things. So just make sure you disconnect your battery before ever welding on your car.
For legal reasons and to avoid any sort of EPA fine like bike builder Jesse James was hit with
These headers when running "test pipes" are meant for off-road use. As most of you know. I'm just saying it to say it. You will get a check engine light for emissions. It will not effect the performance of your car. Most tuners can shut off the rear o2 sensors and you will never see that emissions CEL again. This is 100% up to you.

As far as the price go, we are, E55 and CLS55 owner, on a micro econ scale compare to the LS1 crow. If there were thousand of headers to be sold, the price will be drastically lower. To me, the MBH headers is the best available to the E55/CLS55. If you look around the used shorty headers (basically log type headers) are still about a grand a set.

You'll prabably need to buy rear tires more often.

Now with the group buy set at $3100 and the potential for $2999 I'm basically giving them away. Not to mention putting my money where my mouth is and guaranteeing a min or 40whp gain!
You know that old saying "with great risk comes great reward" In my case with great risk come very little reward.
Most E55 and CLS55's are owned by older folks that dont use the car like we do. It really leaves slim pickings when trying to offer performance products for a rare car(s). There is only a hand full of us who want to take their AMG to the next level. Trust me If this was a Mustang or a Vette it would be alot cheaper because I could buy material in bulk. Mass produce them and move them in much greater numbers. In fact I was approached by a company that could mass produce my headers and I said "no way." I could have jeopardized quality and that is something I'm not willing to do.
You are basically getting a 100% custom header methodically thought out and built for your car. If you can find a shop that will build you a custom set of long tubes using the same materials and craftsmanship for less then mine... and still offer the power guarantee .. Than by all means do it.

1. Some headers give off excessive heat that transfers to the engine compartment.
2. You might encounter a drone in your exhaust system.
3. Your exhaust might get louder.
4. Their illegal in some states.
5. Expensive
6. Check engine light.
But if you ask me, its worth if they weren't so expensive.

I'm going to let this last the weekend. We will no longer need to reach 4 to make the group by happen. I will honor all orders at $3100 +40 for shipping from now until Monday.

weld quality
care that coes into each set
purge welding on each runner
some slight changes have been made to this design. we now use vband clamps rather than a 3 bolt flange. and We have ditched the slip joint collector. Our testing using a pyramid flow devise inside the collector yielded better benefits, so we chose to ditch the slip joint.

Renntech only offers a shorty header for the CLS55 and E55. These headers not only make more power. they will also allow the tuner to be a bit more aggressive when it comes to making a custom tune for your car. That means even more power. These headers where designed for the E and CLS 55's Not a one size fits most. We have extensively worked on clearances from the firewall to the steering shaft.
We cut no corners when it came to making these headers. If i wouldnt put them on my car. I wouldnt offer them to other AMG owners. Its that simple.
I want the best of the best for my car and in this case a 100% US stainless steel header, built on the specs of the engine. We took into consideration important details such as bore and stroke when we designed these headers.
Not to mention it took 4 cars being down a long time to get every thing perfect.
