Need new brakes!!!

It's about time I change my front rotors and pads. The dealership wants 2400 before install. Where else could I purchase new brakes for a more reasonable price?

I ended up doing just my pads as the rotors were still within spec even though MB recommends replacing them with each brake job. I also ended up using aftermarket ceramic pads as they virtually eliminate brake dust. After long debate I chose Akebono pads and let me tell you I love them. Performance is no different than stock and now I don't have to clean my wheels every time I drive it. Have put on about 4000 miles on the pads and have not heard a squeek or squeal either.

That would be my recommendation

do the ceramic brake pads make squeal better, worse, or no change?

I'm i'm guessing 2400 just for the fronts. didn't sound like he was going all around.

63 has the two piece rotors. 55 rotors are cheaper. you could use those... but they are heavier.

That would be nice to spend less but I'm going to stick with the two piece. I found some brakes on eBay but I don't know how legit they are. Maybe some one here can help me out with finding the two piece rotors and pads for a better deal. I jut hate how the dealership trys to suck money out of you.

Not to jinx myself but the ceramics have completely eliminated all squeal/squeeking noises....

Again I have had them on for about 4000 miles or so, about 2+ months

Hmmmm, not to hijack this thread but what would the front rotors cost for a CLS55? And is there a pad that does not let out so much dust, hate these stock pads.

Pads I used are Akebono which ran about 150 for the full front pad set and 120 for the full rear set which I just purchased...not sure about rotors but I would look on the E55 board and search some brake threads as a lot of those guys have gone with Akebono or EBC pads which are almost dustless and also upgraded or used a non-OEM rotor. I just changed my fronts at 49K miles and didn't need to do rotors as they were still plenty thick.

ive done the ceramic thing in the past and the initial bite of the brakes isn't the same. they do require a little more pressure than stock for daily driving.

All of them
Mercedes has two specified thicknesses for the brake rotors, there is service limits and minimum thickness, the service limits are usally .6-.8mm over min thickness, the reason why they will recomend them on the service limit is two reasons, one is to cover the techs and dealership because the last thing they want is a squeak or a vibration from just replacing pads and a customer coming back and getting rotors for free and the tech not get paid to put them on, ive been there and it stinks. two: if its at service limits they say by the next set of pads it will be too far under min thickness and cause vibration or squeak.
If it were my car, depending on how many sets of pads ive gone through already and not changed my rotors, if none or one set i would just buy a good set of pads take the front wheels off and replace the pads. its super simple. zap the wheels off and pop out a few pins slide the pads out and new ones in. 15 min job with a lift 25 min job with a floor jack.

its sucks sometimes because i used to be the nice tech that would try to help the customer and let them know hey this may have to be changed later im just trying to save you money now and they are super excited then a week goes by they come back in pissed and now i have to do for free and they get the parts for free. so 9 out of 10 techs cover themselves and over quote parts and labor.

Seriously, replace rotors each time you replace pads? Is this a standard recommendation for Mercedes??

Evosport uses the same two piece rotors taken from AMG. I do like the rear two piece rotors. When i need new rear rotors il get those. But $1000 seems too much for those right now. What is the average mileage to change to new rotors?

thats kind of my point. If you get them directly from brembo they wont have the mercedes tax on them.

You cannot buy this part from Brembo just like you cannot buy a replacement caliper from Brembo for your OE caliper.
