Getting new brakes!!!
Getting new brakes!!!
So i ordered new front brakes. Rotors and pads. But before I pay is it really necessary to replace the rotors and pads or can I just change the pads. My rotors still have enough thickness and no cracking is going on either.
Ya the stock oem pads. I'm not sure of the brand of pads. The dealership was so pushy on me getting the rotors also but I might just do the pads. I mean c mon only 36k miles and new rotors?
yup...still original rotors. If I were you I would return both and order a set of Akebono ceramic pads for the fronts which will run you about $160 for the set and then around $75 for install at an independent shop. You will be so happy with them...no squealing and no dust either.
So should I be ok just replacing the pads and not the rotors. Only have 36k on my car. When will be a recomended time to change out the rotors also? Also where can I find these brake pads?
If the rotors have any cracks on them they need to be changed. Also when getting the brake job, they can measure the thickness of the rotors and as long as they are above the minimum thickness they are good to go.
You can buy the akebono pads on amazon and many other places. Just go to akebono.com and type in your car info so they will give you the pad info (model #) and then search for it on google. It will probably by EURxxx as the model number and will be about $150 for the fronts.

I keep hearing about Akebono's, but I swear by Porterfield R4S pads. They have virtually no dust, they have great bite and they last a while. Porterfield has to custom make the pad for our car, but they are totally worth the money.
Ps. Porterfield's are also recommended to use in High Performance Brembo kits, and since our stock brakes are OEM Brembos, it makes sense.
