CLS 55 with PLM Heat Exchanger

Mounted this and the CM30 last weekend. Word of caution, the PLM HE does not fit correctly without modification. The mounting tabs are not far enough apart for the CLS, so I had to drill a new bolt holes. Even so, it;s slightly off center. I sent PLM new drawings, and they may make a model with the correct bolt spacing to ensure true bolt in setup. In the end, it works well, and looks like it means business so I am happy enough.

Is this in addition to the OEM H/E or does it replace the factory one?

I can confirm that this kind of H/E can be installed with some bolts and a screwdriver.

Well, i didn't do it myself, but guys at the service station did. I've got 55 CLS 2005. I also installed Johnson pump. Can't say that i say any difference. Sometimes it feels that it rides better on higher speeds with this mod. Well, we'll see.

do you have the template for mounting? ....or how you drilled?
the hole you drilled, was this in the tabs or the core support?

got my PLM lined up and installed. I took a piece of cardboard and cut it to the shape of the top of the heat exchanger.
I made measurements to find center on bumper and cardboard and lined those up. I pressed the cardboard against the bolts to see where they would end up going and drilled the heat exchanger tabs. I'll get some pics up ASAP.

What you can see here is that the inner bolt hole that i drilled is the one holding the majority of the weight. It will hold just fine. The outter hole is more slotted and will hold weight as well.
The outter bolts i swapped out for a longer bolt to accompany a few washers. I went bolt --> washer --> core support --> washer --> heat exchanger tab --> washer --> nut. It gave it plenty of rigidity and helped with spacing and the sandwich effect.
I would have replaced the inner bolts with longer as well but they hit the metal bracket above when attempting to lift out. Also, the bolts are not tightened up in the pic.. just in place. Use some locktite and fugghedaboutit
