Purchasing a 2006 CLS55 need advice

Hi Guys,
I have owned a 2005 E55 for 3 years which I am selling currently. I absolutely love the car btw.

I am looking at 2 cls55 amgs as a replacement.

Not sure which to purchase.
Both are Black on black and very similar options so thats not an issue

The difference is one has 21k miles and has a 1 year certified benz warranty and they are asking $46900
The other one has 16k miles no warranty and they are asking $44000
Both are at mercedes dealers.

So which one do I buy and are those prices too high. Which one should i go after and what price should I offer them?

I appreciate the help

Both are a rare find due to the low mileage.

The car with the CPO warranty is preferred due to the fact that it is the best of the pre owned best. You might be able to obtain an extended CPO warranty. Max out the dealer warranty options because this is the only way to own these cars due to the fact that these cars have high priced shop time and expensively priced parts.

They are bullet proof, but 1 repair bill can set you back a couple of thousand dollars.

You didn't mention options. Are both car identically optioned?
Some of the popular options to have are:
1. Premium package 2
2. Parktronic
3. Electric trunk closurer
4. P030 option (AMG performance package-limited slip differential)
5. Distronic (electronic distance control for cruz control)
6. Voice Activation

Make sure your purchase has:

A. New set of rotors and pads
B. New rubber with alignment and balance
C. Completed 'B' Service
D. New engine air filters, indoor and outdoor HVAC filters
E. Premium Wax Job including interior detailing
F. Verify the previous Owner's Sirrus Radio subscription can continue
G. 2 sets of key fabs
H. AMG logo floor mats

As far as pricing, low= $35K
Dealer pricing is always high. Negotiate, Negotiate, Negotiate. (Remember, the economy sucks.)

I agree with M_Berman's comments above. In my opinion you're better off to go with the one under warranty. First, there's a good chance you'll use it in the next 12 months. Second, if you search the forum you'll find that after market warranties for these cars are hard to come by. The one thing I know from experience is that if your car still has some warranty left then it is much easier and MUCH less expensive to buy an after market extended warranty.

I don't know how much different an E55 is from a CLS55 in terms of warranty issues, but I can tell you from experience I have used my warranty three times in the nine months I've owned my car. All for ticky tacky things that aren't a big deal, but if you add them all up you'll find that they nearly totaled what I paid for my 48,000 mile warranty.

My vote- go with the CLS55 under warranty and enjoy the heck out of your new CLS!!!

I checked today and both CLS 55s are still for sale. I think you guys are right though maybe I should go with the certified one.

The none certified one offered me a aftermarket warranty for $2k but it was penske or United auto care. Anyone ever hear of those?

Like I said both cars are similarly equipped. They have everything except Premium 2 and Distronic andP30 Performance pkg.
Btw what does Premium 2 include and did the 2006 cls 55 even offer P30 package bc I have not seen one anywhere with it
I thought the p30 pkg started in 07.

On a side note I noticed the CLS 55 sounds louder and better than my E55. Is this just my imagination or is the stock CLS exhaust louder?
And are the E55 and CLS 55 rotors the same?

What should I do guys?

Yes the E55 is for sale. I love the car but its time to move on. Ive had it almost 3 years and have never kept a car this long but couldnt help it with this beast. I figure the CLS will look different but is 90% mechanically the same so I wont miss the E55 too much. LOL

How long is the $2,000 warranty good for? Check into the type of coverage it offers. Before I bought my warranty I took a copy of the contract and coverage to my mechanic for review (you should do the same). My thought is for $4,000 you should be able to get a four or five year warranty with 50 to 60K miles. Call around and find out.

By the way, I noticed you're in Connecticut. I would imagine that now is a great time to deal on these cars. Few people are ready to buy a car with as much torque heading into snow and ice season. I bought mine in January and felt like I got a good deal.

Here is a pretty good string about warranties from the forum:https://mbworld.org/forums/cls55-amg...questions.html

As for your other questions, I'll leave those answers to other members that are more expert in those areas.

Since it is a buyer's market, I would try to negotiate on the 16K mi car for either the CPO or the warranty. Penske's United Auto Group is a nationwide chain, so you shouldn't have trouble getting service. But make sure that their 'in house' warranty covers everything.

Should help with your questions on options:

http://www.automotive.com/2006/101/m...ges/index.html

Looks like no P2 package was offered. Hopefully it has the lighting package through. (in '07 they started the P1 and P2 packages. P2 had the xenon lights)

Go for the warranty, there is a reason there is no warranty on the other one.

Get the warranty! In the 2nd month i had my CLS55 i spun the belt off! Would have cost me a lot of money to get it fixed. Instead i got a free tow, a free loaner and my car back in a day. PHEW!!!!

I think you can get a better price on either one. I got mine for $41k with P2, disctronic, and P30 and extended warranty.

Plus with end of year coming they got to move those cars!!

Good luck!

To answer some of your concerns referencing 06 CLS 55:

1. Can purchase the P 030 option for 9995.00
2. Can purchase the P2 package.

I have both of these opitons on my 06 CLS 55. Will be glad to show you.

Who said it was cheep? 51k on a cls is a lot of miles? i got mine with less and it has a lot more now. Still runs and looks the same plus with the warranty its not a big deal on the miles. Guy asked where can you get a 55 for 41k so there is one.
