My first time at the track! (CLS63)

My first time at the track in my 2008 CLS63 was better than I expected Although, my times were disappointing (best time 13.75, 107 MPH) I had a blast and I can't wait to go back!
My reaction time was awful......to much nervous energy!

I need some advice before I go back.

Is there a launch menu?
Should I do a burn out everytime?
Traction control on or off?

My qustions are very basic. I'm always reading posts about go fast parts being installed......I'm assuming you put go fast parts to go fast.

No launch menu. I've only been to the track once as well, ran a 12.7 with the 20"s on. I had the car in raised mode, comfort, traction on, and no burnout. Did about 5 runs all with the same range between 12.7 and 12.8. Motor is all stock. Don't floor it right off the line, get into the throttle slowly. Hope that helps a little

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I did the opposite of what you said!!!! LOL!! I'm going back to track as soon as I buy a helmet. My local track requires you to wear a helmet if you run faster than 14 seconds. I'm planning on getting Vossen CV3(20s) and hope I will be able to get in the 12s with them mounted.

Motor is stock also!

this works for me...

go around the water in the burnout box
backup and straighten the car without getting any water on the tires...put in drive
esp off and do a small burnout
after burnout put esp back on (mine never came on)
leave the car at stock height...do not raise (this will allow the car to weight transfer better...when it's raised the car has little travel to transfer weight in the front)
keep in standard mode. typically if you start in comfort the car starts in second gear and not first...and the car shifts perfect in standard mode.
when prestaged, depending on traction, foot brake the car to roughly 1500-1900 rpm
ease into the staged beam
let it rip

this is the method i use but success varies depending on you, your car and track conditions.

good luck, john

Agreed, perhaps I should have been a little more clear, I raised the car because my car is lowered about 2-2.5", so in raised mode it is at factory height. Also, by comfort mode I meant the suspension setting, not the tranny, keep the tranny in S as mentioned by hous

Thanks again! I have only had my car for about 3 months!!! I'm still getting use to it!

One more thing!! Paddle shifting! I notice that I didn't have to tap to shift gears.....it did it automatically????

It'll shift on it's own in S or C, in M you have to shift yourself.

You will have a blast in this car it is easy to drive and be safe.

Rather than 20 inch rears go with a 17" rear with a drag radial . Put the car in drive sport and when you get to the water do not go through it rather around it then back up to it.

1. back into thy water and pull out .
2.Spin the stock tires a few times maybe 5 seconds in M1
3. Get to the start as soon as you have some smoke coming from the tire.
4. Traction can be off if you come out soft, raise the car
5.Lightly depress brake as light as you can and gently depress throttle just so the car feels like it will creep

6. Depress and as sonn as you hook hammer the kickdown button , stay on the throttle until you pass the second yellow light.

7. use drive sport and make certain to downshift so your dash says 1

8. do not use the paddles,

9. Dyno mode will result in your best chance at record times.

10. Oil temp should be 63-97C, try and do two runs and let the car cool.

11. Make sure you drive very hard prior to the track event. within legal limits of course

12. Bring a video camera and post it up so we can all see your progress.

that 13.75 will soon be 12.75 and perhaps.........
