Very nice - are you going to mod it at all or just leave it stock?

Thanks for the compliments guys. Mods I'm planning:

Brabus lowering module
Brabus lit door sills
Brabus pedals
Brabus floor mats
Brabus steering wheel
Valentine One hardwired
painted front side markers
Silvervision bulbs front and back
HRE 845r's.

Has anyone done the 20" wheels on this car yet? I may go that route instead of 19"s. Any suggestions would be great.

I'm new to the whole concept of making mods, but I now own a CLS 55 and would like to jazz it up a bit more (I know, don't spoil a perfect thing)...what will these mods do for the look of the car, meaning do you have examples of what it will look like?....thanks

You can put 20's on the car. 8 1/2 in front and 11's in the rear. Go to Carlssons website to see a CLS with 20's. Mine will be here in about a week.

Also, Brabus lowering unit will only lower the car about a half an inch. Carlsson's unit lowers the car over an inch. My wife's E55 has had a Carlsson unit on it for almost a year and it works and looks great. I put a Brabus unit on my S55 and I almost can't tell it lowered it at all. Not worth the money.

If you need any further inforamtion you can call Randall at Autowerks Direct. (858) 569-2447

Randall,

Thanks for the suggestions! I can't wait to see pictures of your car with the wheels. What size tires did you go with?

I have the Brabus lowering module on my '05 E55 and for my tastes, it lowered it just enough. Thanks!

255-30-20 in front and 305-25-20 in the rear. Same as Carlsson recommends. The bad news is that you can't get the rear size in a PS2 tire, so you have to use Conti Sport Contact 2 tires. If you go with a 10 1/2 wheel in the rear you can run 295-25-20 PS2, which is probably a better bet for every day driving, but my CLS is not for that.

Be carefully using a Brabus 20 in. wheel, because they are pretty heavy and will make the car ride ruff. Brabus will recommend you stay with 19 in. wheels. That's why I purchase the Carlsson Ultra-Lights. I put 19 in. Carlsson's on my wife E55 and I think, if anything, the car road smoother.

You do have to be more carefully driving around with the Carlsson's lowering unit installed on the car. However, it is adjustable. I have my wife's adjusted to about an inch below stock and with the Carlsson's front lip spoiler installed I thought sure I would be repainting it once a month. But, she has gone great in raising the car when she comes to a dip, so no repaint needed so far. Most importantly the car looks great.

I don't know where you are purchasing your Brabus goodies, but Randall will sell me Brabus stuff cheaper than I can get it from Brabus in Newport Beach.

Have fun playing with your new toy.

Hey thanks for the information! Can you get me backspacing info on those Carlsson wheels? I was told that 305 25 20's were too wide. Thanks in advance!

I'm guessing that you've seen these pics of 20s on a CLS from a while back?

Hey Redline:

PM me with a price you want for your stock 19's. I am checking now to see if they can mounted, direct bolt-on, to a W211 E55. My guess is yes because of the near identical platforms the two cars share. I think they would really snaz up my car!

Nice CLS, I'm liking it more and more every time I see it. Congrat's.

Looks like it's time to get some AMG wall art in the Garage? What kind of flooring is that?

BTW, for those of you who are into Garages, checkout GarageJunkies. There are some truely cool garages in there.

Unhappy 20" Brabus Wheels

Redlinerobert - I was the one who took the pictures of the CLS at Brabus and the 20" wheels that were on that car were 9" wide in the front and 10.5" wide in the rear. Personally I think that 20" wheels do not leave enough tire between the road and the rim and put the rim at risk of being bent much to easily. I have a friend that had 20" Brabus wheels on his S600 and he replaced three wheels over the coarse of a year. After that he took them off and put 19" wheels on and never had another problem bending rims. Enjoy your new CLS! - Bob

Hey guys, thanks for all the compliments. I'm telling you, having both the E55 and now the CLS55 there is no comparison between the two. I absolutely love this car's looks.

E55soon, pm me an offer and we'll start from there

RossN, you're right! I'm looking for some nice prints but haven't had any luck finding any. Know of a place I could look? The flooring is commercial grade vinyl tile. It's somewhat pliable, cost effective, and looks great even close up. I had the garage floor sanded down and the crevices filled with epoxy to provide a smooth installation surface. I'm extremely happy with the results. I checked the flooring offered by Griot's Garage, but for the square footage I have in the garage it would have came out to over $10,000 just for material. With this stuff I paid a little over $2,000. If you need any info on where to get the stuff let me know.

Evo Marine, thanks for the info on the 20" wheels. I have 19" HRE's on my E55 and havent had any issues, I'll try 20's on this car and see how it goes. I can always switch back to the 19's.

CLS Wheels/Tires:

CLS55 AMG:
255/35-19 & 285/30-19 Bridgestone RE050
19x8.5 et 25 & 19x9.5 et28 Single Spoke/5 AMG
Verdict: 19's fit R230SL perfectly. Can fit W211 very aggressively (even lowered) and only if tires are changed to 245/35-19 & 275/30-19. The 285's will rub in the rear regardless if fenders are rolled!

CLS 500 Sport:
255/40-18 & 285/35-18 Pirelli Rosso
18x8.5 et25 & 18x9.5 et28 Twin-Spoke/5 AMG

CLS 500 Base:
245/40-18 & 265/30-18 Continental Sportcontact 2
18x8.5 et25 18x9.5 et 28 "Banana Spoke" 7 Mercedes

Thanks for the garage compliments guys - much appreciated!

Well after talking to Peter Lee at Wheel Experts, were going to try 20 x 11's for the CLS with 305 25 20 rear tires. I can't wait to see these on the car!
