I drove an 05 GTO today...

I have to admit I wasn't expecting much but came away pretty impressed. I wish one of the car mags had the nuts to do a comparo of the GTO and an M3. It was pretty fast in a straigh line and it handled well but not on par with M3/C55/S4. GM could change that with a more aggressive wheel/suspension package. Overall I give it two thumbs up. It was fun and they are only 33K before the huge discount you know you're gonna get.

What's up bro?
Yeah the GTO has the same horsepower figure as the CTS-V and costs about $20,000 less.. If you can get past the interior which screams "Attention K-MART shoppers" the bang for the buck is unbeatable. Keep in mind the late Z06 made 405 hp, so I can imagine that it moves. It's definitely got some low rent touches, but it's all about that 6.0 liter V8. I'd take the GTO over an entry level german sedan (of the garden variety) any day....

You could pick up a GTO for dirt cheap. They aren't selling that well- I've heard people buying them at $2k under invoice.

And even though it's a modified Holden Monaro from Austrailia, it's still a good deal.

Too bad we dont get to see them overseas. I like the styling of the car.. even though it surely isnt a match for an AMG

I think in Europe they sell them as the Vauxhall Monaro.

I am tempting to get one of those for a daily driver. It a couple of grand in wheel/tires and suspension, It could definately give the CLK55 the run for the money.

I just happened to kill one of those things at the Big Track at Willow Springs yesterday. Pulled him on the straights as well.

The car is ugly, but great for people that like big engines and have limited funds. I had a guy in one get all testy with me, I didn't realize what it was at the time, so I never gave him the time of day. I only race competition.

It's still a Pontiac no matter what spin they put on it.

I used to like Pontiacs back in the '70's. Their contemporary cars are crap.

Case in point: The Aztec & Defunct Grand Am.

Its badged as a Pontiac but it is designed and built by Holden of Australia, all of the GTO's are imported. THe only difference is the american cars get the LS2 motors. If it were a "real" pontiac, I would never have bothered to drive it. Sorry GM.

Eric...
I personally find the interior quite attractive, and much nicer than that of the M3.

There are some obvious things like unlocking the doors requires you to do it manually or with the key fob, but the actual materials and finish are really very good especially considering price and the tried and true small block pushrod motor and tremec 6 speed straight out of the Corvette make it very attractive. Barring a few creature comforts, adding a more aggressive spring set and a wheel/tire package, upgrading the sound system I could be pretty happy with it. It can be easily modded for another 10-25 hp and supercharging/nitrous are affordable options for the chevy small block. Of course I'd be redneck again.......

I don't think anyone would look like a redneck driving the new GTO. For all intent and purpouse it's a import from down under. I think the lack of interest from the tipical redneck crowd is the main reason why they are not selling too well. And of course the import crowd are too brand consious to even look at a pontiac no matter how good the car is just like most people here
