Original CLK Grill for C55

Would like to know which C55 owners have replaced their grill with the original stock CLK grill ? Questions:-
1. How many types of CLK grill that can be chosen ? e.g. black /silver
2. I am aware of the hood lock needs to be replaced otherwise, it will not close properly. So, does the replacement package comes in with the hood lock ?
3. How easy is to replace the hood lock by a repair shop?
4. Where to order the whole set? How much
Appreciated a reply to all above based on actual owner experience.
Thanks.

Not a C55 owner, but thought you might find these links helpful:

MBWerks
http://www.mbwerks.com/osc/catalog/p...cf1d0833fdf4e9

ForMyMercedes.com
http://www.formymercedes.com/contsp/...tegory=Grilles

Both seem to be complete packages with all you need to make the conversion. FMM is quite a bit cheaper and I think they're both exactly the same.

Please kindly keep us post the details.
(I trust the package you have is truly original CLK Grill Kit)
It will be very high costs for me to airmail order a package , so I want to be 100% sure whether the kit can be installed by my local repair shop.
Thanks

Argh...I bought the grill
but one of the chrome strips fell off and I couldnt find a replacement!
Make sure all the chrom strips are stuck on securely...

I took all of them out and superglued them

About installation..
Its pretty obvious how to do it...the only part that is not obvious is to remove the original silver chrome strip attached to the hood...other than that...pretty easy!
=D

post more Q if u need!

But I am still puzzled whether you have got the original CLK grill for your C55 , or you got the OEM equivalent?
I am asking because I want the C55 grill to be exactly the same as a CLK.

Heh CNT....

I thought we went thru this exersise back in December???

The kits from companies like Autowerks are complete and use all original parts availible from your MB dealer.

You can order from Autowerks and be assured you will be getting an original CLK grille. The prices for the kit has gone up by over a $100 recently but I don't see any reason for the increase.

You can get the parts from your local dealer though.
1) 05 CLK grille
2) 05 CLK hood latch
3) 05 CLK Grille support

Should run you under $250.00USD complete

Then get a Schatz Flat Hood Emblem to complete the pkg. (4-AMGs on this forum has a very nice emblem availible but its pricey)

Installation is VERY easy and straight forward. Even without directions (the kits don't come with them because its that easy)

Just remove the chrome hood strip, swap hood latches using existing bolts, unbolt the Grille support on the C55 Grille and ease the C55 Grille foward and out of place. There are 2 male/female connections on the lower sides of the Grille that just pop out. Install the new CLK Grille and support and BANG, your done

Hope this helps.....

This is what I call AN ANSWER.
I bold all what I call "key words" that ease my mind :p .
My confusion was , firstly ppl were not only talking about C55 but C32.
Finally , my last question:-
Does the CLS grill has one color or two ? If two, which one will match
my Brilliant Silver color that should be the same as a stock CLK.

Many thanks
cnt
p.s. Not forgetting to thank others who helped too

The CLK Grille comes in 2 versions.

Black w Chrome and Silver w Chrome.

The Br Silver CLK comes stock with the Black on Chrome and I think thats what you are after.

Becareful what grille you buy, some are really bad quality. I just bought one for my C32 and quality and fitment was not good (as derrick lui pointed out). I have just returned it.

I am looking at buying a better quality grill so I contacted Jerry at ForMyMercedes.com
http://www.formymercedes.com/contsp...ategory=Grilles

Jerry tells me if I cannot be pleased don't buy one from him. Hmmm this suggests his grills are crap. Don't buy it from ForMyMercedes.com.
My take on it is if you can't supply a quality Mercedes product don't be selling it just to make a quick buck $$$$.

If what you purchased was the "CL Style Grille", I would be extremely surprised that you found the quality and fitment to be inferior. Now if you purchased the "prestige" or "elegance" grilles, I would have to agree that those are ****ty grilles as MANY forum members have reported.

As you noticed some responses about C32 star grill , you know what my worries was as and why I was confused.

Guess I am correct, only C55 can use original CLK grill because the C55 header is identical to CLK.

Anyway, below are what I know, and I need No.1

1. Original CLK grill for C55
2. CL styled grill for non-C55
3. CL styled grill for C55

Cheers

CNT, You are correct. The c55 is the ONLY C Class that will take a OEM 05 CLK grille and thats is what you need.

Would you happen to know ... if the CLK55 front-end (nose) is the same as the C55, then how does the CLK55 hood badge fit on the C55 (i.e. why do people need to try and source hood badges from a 3rd party to get a proper fit)? Also, am I correct that the noses are not exactly the same if the hood latch must be changed?

Rgds,
Norm

different grilles/different latches...both need to be changed for the C55 grille to CLK grille conversion

As for the hood badge, I suppose the cut-out for the hood badge might be different on the CLK and C55 hoods since they made the C55 to accomodate the hood ornament.

Heh Norm, How are things>>>>>

Blake is right all around. The badge on the CLK 55 is a different fit and goes into a cutout made for a flat hood emblem. The C55 needs a coversion kit to accommodate the flat emblem.

Have you seen this one that 4-AMGs has. I think this is the way to go. A bit pricey but its the best I have seen so far. I am going to order one tomorrow and will report once I have it

Regards,

Thanks, I screwed that up. I think I knew the latch was due to the grill being different and had nothing to do with the badge.

Regards,
Doing well thanks and hope you are also. Yes, I did see that badge and even e-mailed him a couple of months back to get some info. The reason I held off was because I wanted to get the badge that "Chappy" got, which is basically the same thing but monochrome. I think it looks better without the color on the Brilliant Silver hood color but they are difficult to find.

Scroll down in this post to see the monochrome hood badge.

Norm

Heh Norm, I purchased the color version of the one Chappy has but the quality was not up to par......the one from 4-AMG's seems to be of much better quality and stronger detail (if that makes sense).
I'll let you know once I get it...

Take care for now...

I've seen the cheaper color versions on E-bay. They are not the same as Chappy's I think, because his fits the recess and the others on E-bay generally do not. However, I have not seen his really close up either, to be able to tell the quality.

Nope, the color one I first got is identical to the mono one and does fit the space perfectly, just not up to par......Trust me, looks cheap

The guys that I purchased from are in Taiwan RPC. I think he had both Mono and color if your determined
