We lost a friend over on 6speed
Those of you who knew or have browsed the 6 speed forum know him as ben, fl then ben, lj. He died in a tragic accident yesterday @ a California Motor Speedway as well a fellow enthusiast Cory, whom I do not know was also killed. If you are a member of 6speed jump over and say a few words the outpouring has been overwhelming, as well post your thoughts here.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Ben, Corey and their families.
I learned about this crash from the NBC news site as well.
He (Ben) shared alot of information about Porsche's in general (esp. the Carrera GT and Cayenne turbo). He will be sorely missed.

I've read a lot about this today as it has quickly spread throughout the motorsports community discussion groups and forums. It's terrifying how it happened, just a real shame. Ben leaves behind a wife and infant daughter, and Corey was a newly wed.
A word of caution to anyone thinking of posting. Never assume anything about these incidents. Some audi forum members have disgraced us all with their comments on this situation.
I discussed this with Jen (my fiance) and our thoughts and prayers are with their them and their families.

Shame
It's always a shame to lose guys who were "doing it the right way"....What I mean is, they weren't out on the freakin' hwy putting other people's lives in danger. I don't know enough to comment any more than that.
Thoughts and Prayers.....

In no way do I want to come off insincere, but I'm very curious to know if insurance will cover a car that you're racing at the track?

Very sad. A tragic reminder for all of us who do track days. It is unreal how torn up the passanger side of that GT was. No, by the way. The car is not covered under insurance. My friends and I have drug many a sportbike on a chain behind a truck (on a public back road) after having crashed on the track. Back to the point, my prayers go out to the friends and family of these guys. May all the walls in heaven be soft and all the tracks be freshly paved.

Hey Marc, I didn't know him at all but am surprised at how sullen I feel. I actually got the allocation for my 997S today but its a bit of an afterthought after yesterday. Hope all is well. Sorry I haven't touched base, I will drop you an email to say hi.

Not sure how much all of you have read, but the whole thing could've been avoided. In a short period of time, misjudgements and conflicting directions were provided to a driver entering the track. Witnesses stated that the Pit Lane stewart told a F-car driver to roll out, then signaled to wait, the instructor in the F-Car said to go, the driver of the F-Car hesitated, then entered the track. Just prior on the straight, the Carrera GT had passed another driver at ~150-155. They esitmate that when the F-Car entered the track, Ben had to swerve and left the track at ~165. Estimates are that they hit the wall at ~150.
The Carrera GT is supposed to be impossibly difficult to control, even the Top Gear driver had some difficulties with it. At only 165 mph, seems the Driver was being conservative.
I didn't know either driver or passenger but have read his posts over at 6speed. I hate to see bad things happen to people. I was particularly saddened by who Ben leaves behind. I was looking over at my pictures of Jen and Casey (my soon-to-be stepson who's 5 years old), and was absolutely floored by thoughts of how the wives must feel when these things happen. It's going to be impossible to go to Summit Point next weekend with my normal confidence and excitement.

I too feel so bad about this. I only knew the guy from online, i used to post alot and read all of his replys, he was a very active poster. I have spoke to him a few time online about his cars, he was just a real nice guy. I never thought i would feel this bad about someone i didn't know well. But i still cannot get over the fact that i will never see his replys anymore.
He will be missed.

I am in the Search Engine Marketing business. I first saw this pop-up on those forums. He was one of the founders of the Pop-Ups everyone so loves. He was very well respected with the SEM community.
We will morn his loss.

The 6speed community has truly set a great bar for the enthusist communities to live up to. "Class" is mentioned on that thread and it is absolutlely appropriate. So dignifying and respectful. My hat's off to them.
