CTS V with a Maggie vs. C32 AMG
Went to dinner last night and friend of mine who has a CTS V with a maggie blower showed up and took me for a ride. The blower whine was awesome but his gears went by too quick (he short shifted every gear) so it did not seem that much faster than my C32. I would not rag on the CTS V either cause the damn thing is smoking hot. For you dyno racers out he dynoed around 430 at the wheels while my C32 does 302. Well we went to some back roads and lined up and heres how our 2 races ended.
From a Dig:
This was actually a funny race. I turned off traction control and put it in manual first gear. Well on the first honk I dead hook like always and get like 2 cars and look in my side mirror and he is all over the road. It looks like he is doing a burnout behind me. Well there was no way for him to catch me so I lifted. I beat the driver not the car. So we pull up to the next stop sign and asked if I wanted to go from a roll. To see how close our cars are, I said sure.
From a 20 roll to 90 (not enough room to go higher, thank god):
We both hit it at the same time and my front bumper is at his door through first. He shifts and I gain alittle, then he starts pulling me and I am a little behind his front door when he shifts to third. By 90 I am at his rear bumper and the race is over! He beat on his car that time cause I heard loud chirps when he shifted and the loud blower sound was awesome. If we would have gone longer it would have been real ugly for me as he would not have to change gears which was the only time I made up ground.
Overall a funny and fun night.
I took the C32 to the track 2 months ago and was pretty happy 8.6 at 82 in the 1/8th which should get me a 13.3 at 104 in the quater if not a little faster. (Bone Stock)

Cool story. I am not familiar with the "Maggie" blower , I can only assume that its an aftermarket bolt-on.How do you do you think you would have faired if he didn't have the blower ?

I have raced a CTS V that was stock and smoked him off the line and we were dead even from 50 - 130. Whatever he gains by more HP he loses back because of shifts.
With drag radials I am confident I could get the C32 with no other mods into the 12's! If I pull a 1.8 60' instead of a 2.0 then I am 8.4 which gets me a 13.00 in 90 degree heat so I will have to wait for the winter to get my 12 sec slip in my C32.

Thanx for the education . I was curious how fast the CTS-V are.I raced one of the new STS (4) - ( see KILL STORIES - C43 vs. STS (4)? ) but I didin't want to go up against any of their "V" class. What part of the country are you from ? Thanx for the info and a good story.

Nice run! I am surprised that you fared as well as you did. Specs say that the stock CTS-V should give a C32 a pretty good run. The blown CTS-V should have romped you (or, in dyno terms, he is putting out 130 more RWHP with a car of roughly the same weight). Anyway, he must've been pretty shocked to see a 3.2 litre V-6 run with his monster V-8.

Well done. You would definetly break into the 12s with drag radials.. but you can't have drag radials as your everyday tires can you??? won't the ride suck!?? I think that you should invest in some engine mods as well.. I know peeps who have a set of rims like 235/35/19 or whatever (on the C32 you could do staggered 265/30/19 on back of cuz, and then your stockies with drag radials on them for when you hit up the track.

Thanks for all the responses. The CTS V is violent when shifting with the maggie blower and 3.73 gears which are stock. If he went to a 3.42 or 3.15 gear he would have destroyed me. A stock CTS V is a drivers race for sure from a dig but on the highway CTS V will pull alittle which you should make up on shifts.
As for drag radials, they ride better around town then normal street tires but only last a couple of thousand miles. There is a little handling penalty if they are not aired up to 34 psi also.
Next time we run I will video it so you can see how not to drive a CTS V! With him short shifting he changed gears every other second which cost him alot of time!

C32s on a road course are tough to beat. When I had my V-series(stock with race tires) I had a hard time pulling any distance on my buddy in his C32(jcanabal) with race rubber...and a passenger. They can really hold corner speed as I pull away slightly in the straights at Nelson Ledges. I later blister the left front Dunlop SP Race tire and went off T1. Along with differential weaknesses the V is just not designed for heavy duty use. So I traded on an '05 GTO.
I recent did a few rolls on on the highway againist the same car but this time I was in my '05 GTO. jcanabal was shocked as I rolled on him at speed as we went about 5 times before he gave up. He has an SLK55 on order to even things up.

Sorry to burst your bubble over here. BUUUt....a maggied cts-v puts down waaay more than 430 to the wheels, secondly, I can beat a c32 in my stock V all day long,. so him only beating you by that much is BS. Secondly a maggied V is a 11 second car from a roll, your c32 is high 12 to 13.4 second car. So please spare the rude insults to the V by saying your c32 hung with it.....what did he start in 4th?
In fact. ll challeneged anyone who is local to me who has a c32 in mostly stock trim to come take a shot at my exhaust/ short shifter V.

actually the stock ls6 cam is a great blower cam....so whoever told you lsx's dont handle boost well, they are wrong, and so are you... Im on my 6th lsx. The real truth to the matter is magnuson is a cheap blower and puts out cheap results....go with an ati procharger d1sc

1st race from a dig - I won because he fried his tires and could not get traction.
2nd race from a slow roll - He won and I only gained ground back between his shifts. Lost by a car. BTW - He also short shifts every time as to avoid the rev limiter. His car is faster but he cant drive it to his limits.
If I was close to you I would take you up on the race. I would have the wife drive my vette and destroy both of us which she would get a kick out of.
Before you go with crazy numbers on a Maggie LSx it all depends if the bottom end is forged. Almost all FI on stock bottom end LSx only 6 to 7 psi. When we raced he had a stock bottom end, stock cam and heads. He has since gotten more agressive and does over 500 at the wheels but guess what he still trying to break into the 11's. He is a really bad driver but traps in the mid 120's.

Dude, go pick a fight somewhere else. This is a place for logical and (mostly) calm discussions about the issues related to our Mercedes. Go find someone to change your diaper on a Caddy forum.

I've ran and killed a couple of CTS-Vs with little drama. C32's are faster than your Caddie which is the most unsporting car in the segment. Cute how Cadillac wanted a bit of the M/AMG/S pie so they added a chicken mesh grille and a little V

No doubt it has a good engine in it, but that's about it no? Friend told me there aren't really any upgrades to the suspension, brakes, etc.
I test drove one, and didn't really like it. The interior design I didn't like. Don't quite remember quaility of it. Shifting? I would rather use the AMG Speedshift, than that rubbery slop (maybe I'm spoiled because I learned stick on my friend's Porsche ).
