Question E55 brakes on C55, Why not?

Greetings,
I'm new on the mods thing but I see a lot of chatter about upgrading brakes on our C55. I'm wondering if both the C55 and the E55 have 18" wheels, why not upgrade C55 calipers and rotors to those of the E55?

This would give us an AMG product designed for more horsepower within the same sized wheel. More surface area and more pistons, seems like a good solution. Am I missing something?

PS. I turned 40 and finally bought the only new AMG I could afford. I assumed that since AMG did all the mods that there would be no reason to do anything else. Then I made the mistake of reading this forum and now all I think about is Kleeman supercharger, new wheels, new brakes......more power!

I just picked my car up from Kleemann yesterday. I had the 55K S7 conversion, and I must say the car is FAST!!! I'm now putting out 531 hp and 540 lbs of torque!!!

Call Brandon at Kleemann... he'll hook you up.

Congrats on your purchase. The only thing that is keeping my modding in check is "Mi-Espousa"

That's what I'd love to do 6 piston calibers front and 4 piston rear with crossed drilled rotors all around. However, my dealer will not sell me the parts because they said they are not compatible with my car which I know is not true. So now I don't know where to go to get them. If anyone knows of a place I can call please let me know.

With all this potential interest and talk about upgrading the brakes out the C55, I just want to know one thing. Is this mod really just for cosmetics (bigger rotors and more pistons), or will there really be a noticeable decrease in stopping distance? I find the stock brakes stop pretty well already, or am I missing something?

You will get more stopping power with the brake upgrade.

Yeah, just like the car must be faster with an ECU upgrade....

It certainly makes sense that stopping differences will be shorter with "better brakes", but how much of a difference will there be? Are you talking differences like a Kleeman supercharger will do for acceleration? or is this brake upgrade more like putting in K&N filters and getting slightly better throttle response?

I ask this because these brake upgrades are not cheap. Quantifying brake performance usually involve stopping distances, and I have never seen anything which compares stopping distances between stock and various brake upgrades. Anybody have any idea? I'm just curious to know how much better such upgrades are compared to stock.

Stopping distances will not be shorter. You will gain repeatability with consecutive stops from 100+ mph, but the limiting factor with stoppping distance is the tires and chassis.

This mod is purely cosmetic. You will actually lose some performance(acceleration and suspension) due too the increased weight of the e55 brake parts.

I don't want a E55 brake upgrade. I want a SLK/CLK55 brake upgrade. Does anyone here know where to get them?

The big reason for big brakes is heat dissipation.
