Horsepower rating?

Is the 362hp rating conservative? I was hoping that number was underated a little.

thanks

Willkommen! Not sure if it's conservative or not but it's pretty quick. Why? Are you planning on getting more power?

Actually its far less than that the car is very underpowered. Way too slow. You would be better off with a Prius. :p But seriously it could be underated or it could be overated to a small degree the power output varies somewhat on each engine built 362 is just an average. I have also seen the number 367hp on the AMG website. Have it dyno'd and you'll know for sure.

Oh, were it only so simple. Dynos are also very imprecise and dependent on a whole bunch of variables. I guess that you could get a pretty good idea if you were willing to drop about a grand on dynos and do about 20 different readings on different days with different temps, barometric pressure, humidity, etc.

Actually, if use Dynojet dyno you will a fairly close results. They all use the same weather station and the same SAE correction factors.

When it first came out in mid90s, we ran the same car on three Dynojets at three different tuners. The numbers were within 1/2 HP of one another.

I'm wondering, if under the new SAE ratings, if the horsepower rating has changed... anyone know?

purely a coincidence, also within 1/2hp of what number? definaly not the real whp number. They aren't that accurate and you know it!not saying they are useless just not the be all and end all. The actual absolute numbers don't mean much but testing a car before and after a mod can be useful.
Do you guys actually test mods on the crank to see some hp numbers

Nope, not a coincidence, I been working with Dynojet for over 8 years now. That car, Taurus SHO, made 255HP at the wheels - on all three dynoes. You could overlay HP and TQ curves and together they become one.

We have 11 of them within 40 mile radius and one two doors down at Mustang shop. We have compared several cars back to back on both dynoes and they both read the same.

not saying they are useless just not the be all and end all. The actual absolute numbers don't mean much but testing a car before and after a mod can be useful.
Agree, it has limitations and it is very useful for before and after. By now, in US, Dynojet is the defacto standard for quoting wheel numbers - with over 2000 sold.

No, to pull the motor out and get wiring harness and DME to work outside the car is just too expensive. With chassis dyno there is really no need for it at this time.
