what to do?

bought my car in april and only have 3500 miles on it. my service A message says service needed in 10 days for my C55. i thought either 10,000 miles or 1 year for service A. i called 2 dealerships in chicagoland--

dealer 1- yes u need to do it b/c the car's sensor is saying that the car needs service regardless of miles or time. quoted me $295.00

dealer 2- in 05 and 06 MB models, service A is needed at 13,000 miles regardless of time. she stated they have lots of 05 and 06 models that come in w/ same situation and all they do is reset the service sensors. she said to come in and they will reset my service sensor.

now my C55 is a lease so should i go w/ dealer 1 or 2's advice. feedback would be greatly appreciated. TIA

On a lease that I don't intend to buy I'd probably just go with dealer #2's recommendation and have it reset. If you intend to buy at the end of your lease term, I'd make sure and have it serviced. I'm sure the engine was first started a year ago, which made the car's onboard computer start running, even though you only purchased it in April.

My car is doing the same thing, although it only has 400 miles on it. In your case, I would give more credence to dealer #2' suggestion. I personally am going to wait till break-in is complete and ask them at the 1000 mile diagnostic. I'll keep you posted on what my dealer says.

Non-AMG cars are 13,000miles, AMG cars are 10,000miles. Both are 1 year. The DAS computer will explain why the service is being called for so soon. My recommendation is to visit Knauz Auto Park - and request a technician by the last name of Anderson. Don't remember his first.

You can reset the service reminder system yourself - no need to visit the dealer for that.

I don't quite understand this, why does it seem like you guys don't have manufacture warranty of 4yr/50K miles to cover the cost of your service A and B and anything else that goes wrong with the car during that time?

good-old MB no longer provide free maintenance on 05 models and beyond. therefore, we are responsible to pay for our own maintenance.

i totally agree. my other cars prior to C55 were audi and bmws and all of them had free maintenance. besides the money issue, it's just a nice feeling knowing when you take your car to the stealership your cost is $0.00

If you haven't noticed, I have a pre'05 model. Dude, THAT SUCKS!! wasn't aware of that. Why, if you are trying to compete with other companies such as BMW, that you are taking away benefits rather than adding. That don't make sense. MB and BMW is basically flip flopping their mentality as far as I'm concern. BMW used to not offer free schedule maintenance and now they do.

If you didnt have the service done. do it. The sensors will calculate when you need the service. it is no set miles.. If you "DRIVE" the car like its meant to be driven, expect the light to come on sooner. If you putz it around you might go longer. Some of the cars take 15-17000 before they come on. Its all driving habits and conditions.

Resetting the service reminder

I have an '02 which has 40k on the clock, so I still have dealer paid service, but after 50k, I'll be changing my own oil. Does anyone know how to reset the reminder after changing the oil?
