C55 - New Tires

I took my car in today to have them check on a few things and was told that I need new rear tires (the fronts are fine).

I was quoted $326 per tire for new Pirelli tires (285-35 CR 18). Should I just order them through the dealer or does anyone know of a major chain store that I can buy them at for cheaper?

Thanks,
Nick

PS I had a message on my dash indicating my right license plate bulb needed to be replaced. They also said they re-flashed my Nav b/c I told them the back light would change from the standard light blue color to a dark grey/black. The tech said the relashing will take care of this along with updating the Nav. We'll see if it's any different.

There is no way that tire will fit, please do not order them at all. A 255-35 is probably the widest you can go on that car with no rubbing. Also 326 per tire is a colossal rip off.

If you went with tire rack you would save 50 bucks plus tax on the whole price of the pair. So you would probably pay like 100 dollars less after paying for shipping.

Thanks for all of the replys guys!

I got my car and you're right, it's not 285 which the guy again told me it was. My tire says...

245/35 ZR18 92Y

What's the 92Y for?

I called America's Tire Co. and they said they can order them for $257 per tire. which is cheaper than the stealership but the Tire Rack seems to be the place to beat.

The tirerack has a site explaining all those numbers. Plus if you click on the marketplace link on top and access tirerack that way you will help support the forum by the kickback that tirerack will then give MBW as part of being a sponsor.

$326 for 2x245 18" rear for Rosso is very good price !
Next time , I will ask someone to being the rear tires to me by hand if thye do fly to hk.
I recently here paid USD980 for 2xF225 , 2 xR255 for PS/2 18"
I think it 's a rip-off ?

$326 is for 1 tire, not 2.

I think cntlaw is reminding us once again that things are more expensive in hong kong because of a different system of government there.

If I were you I would call that stealership up, talk to the service manager and give him a serious earful. 285s!!! First of all he is totally quoting the wrong tire and second of all, I don't think anyone even makes a radial for $326! That's insane.

America's Tire Co. came through!

So here's the deal I got...

After telling America's Tire Co. (also known as Discount Tire Co.) the price that Tirerack.com quoted me, they agreed to match their price. Then I told them that I wouldn't have to pay the sales tax with Tirerack.com and he said he'll do what ever it takes to win my business. So it worked out to...

TireRack.com: $468.76 (2 rear tires, includes shipping)
America's Tire Co. $488.09 (for 2 rear Pirelli tires) after tax & install fees

So even though ATC charged me tax, they lowered the price of the tire even more to match up exactly what I was quoted by Tirerack.com and then added $20 for install and balancing!

Another advantage of using ATC, would be IF they had the tire in stock which is most likely in the future. They they said they will have it in 3 days which is the amount of time I was quoted from Tirerack for shipping.

Either way, a HUGE savings compared to the STEALERSHIP!
