Obviously my techinique doesn't really apply, but I'll share it anyway... I have to get very creative with my launch - I brake torque to about 1800 rpm and barely press the gas momentarily (feather it half way at most) then after it gets going with minimal wheel spin, I feather it a tad bit more (75%) and then I floor it. Wheels still spin, but this techique consistantly yields at 2.0-2.08 60'.

Yeah, definitely with 2 feet. Otherwise there would be a time wasted when moving your foot from brake to throttle. Brake torque allows you to get closer to your kompressor effective start point and your maximum torque rpm.

Dumbest thread EVER.
Just shoot me now
You guys act as if you never owned a performance vehicle of any kind before. No wonder you all bought one that only goes fast in a straight line.
*EDIT* I'm guilty of the same thing, but I'm hoping that numerous suspension mods with rectify the situation. If not, it's back to BMW.

C32/55 thread is the best thread among all and we get good help from.
If you like to help out, do so , postively.
If you like to have a good time by being nasty, I recall we have more nasty people here who will teach you what performance driving is.
Go to check the bimmer forums and find out how many dumbs threads there that you can laugh at humiliate with, you will enjoy more than being just here.

I think you misunderstand me, cntlaw. I'm not attempting to humiliate anyone, and wouldn't take pleasure in doing so. I'm just expressing my frustration. When I'm out and about, I meet people who (until thay talk to me) assume that I'm some kind of stuck up yuppie who doesn't know how to drive my AMG Mercedes-Benz. Why are they like that? Because of every other M-B owner they met before me.
I was hoping when I bought this car that I was stepping into the realm of the knowledgeable, educated driving enthusiast - people who really know their cars and who arrived here after years of experience. Thinking that the hefty price surcharge of the AMG models over their more teutonic brethren worked like a filter, I had a fantasy of the AMG owner that just wasn't true (there are of course exceptions, and this forum is full of people who do seem to give a s--t). Point is, I think there ought to be a driving test before you can purchase one of these cars. it should include a demonstration of basic performance driving skills, such as launch techniques, up and downshifting techniques, trail braking, over/understeer management, etc - all related to a clear understanding of the definition of "contact patch". Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, and this forum provides some/all of that knowledge to the curious driver?

Im still trying to get my launch down with this car. The lack of a good tire hurts. Theres not much room for bigger, and I dont think pirellis are any good. From a 5mph roll you still can light these up. I had a set of Goodyear GS-D3s on my vette. I costantly cut 1.8-1.9 with those. 420 rwhp 391rwtq, 6-speed with 4:10s and they hooked decent. I may try the GS-D3s on here.

I use a standard powerbrake launch. I rev it as high as the brakes will let me get. After about 2800RPM the brakes start slipping from lack of power assist. I get 1.8-1.9s consistently.
Also, if you car has light mods, put it 1st gear and let it shift at redline. My car bounces off the rev limiter in lower gears so I just leave it in 4th.

That's an interesting point. Mine will occasionally do that if I'm in 1st or 2nd at a fairly stead speed (like, going through a 90 degree corner from a stop) and then nail it. It's as if it revs faster than the computer/sensors can keep up. Since yours is modded, do you think it's hitting the rev limiter too fast for the shift signal? If so, is there a way to modify the shift point so that the signal to upshift comes earlier?
