is this the exact same engine as in 210 e55 and early 220 s55 amg (both non supercharged)??
if yes how come it produces more hp?

i believe so, with the exception of i think a different set of Cams

 

I would imagine different pistons for the compression ratio. The C55 has I think 11.5.1 which is high for a SC engine.

 

The C55 is not supercharged.

 

Why shouldnt it produce more hp? After market software tuners can remapp your ECu to produce more hp's, I'm sure MB can do the simple tweaking themselves!

 

Um, isn't the C55 engine N/A and E55 and S55 engines S/Ced?

The following is taken from press material from Mercedes Benz when they launched the C55 in 2004. It explains in part what is "new" in the C55 engine and exhuast system.

In designing the engine, the engineers at Mercedes-AMG GmbH were able to call on the deep knowledge gained over more than three decades of motor racing. Cast pistons made of aluminium are used in the cylinders. Yes I know. I stated that the CR would be too high for a supercharger. MB would not use a blower with CR this high. Others that do use low boost PSI. Optimal CR for a blower is around 8.0.1-9.0.1 for high boost. I diddnt realize he was talking about the old N/A E's and S's.

 

My understanding is that the C55 is naturally aspirated..I could be wrong..

The guy was referring to OLDER NATURALLY ASPIRATED AMG MODELS!!!!

 

from 98-2004 all of the M113 V8's are the same.In 2001 they raised the compression from 10.5:1 to 11.0:1.
