I know I didn't!!! I'm actually interested in buying this car but I'm a little hesitant because of that silver square shaped metal piece on top of the Supercharger. The seller cound't explain it and he said the engine never had any work to it !

Please advice on what it could be or what purpose does it serve??? My guess is that this engine was worked on and the silver plate was used to patch it or something. Let me know your thoughts.

Shouldn't that be the place where the plaque with the name of the guy who built your engine sit?

Kompressor installed at the dealer or another shop? (maybe first one faulty) Perhaps then you have to remove German builders name?

I hope so! but none of the other C32 engines that I looked at had this silver plate.

It's a 2002. mid 20's due to the high mileage. My current c230 lease is ending next month and my plan is to buy this C32 and keep it for a couple of years then replace it with the new C55\63 AMG or CLK55.

It looks like it's the background for the 2003+ engine builder signature plate but:
1) I'm not sure if it's in the right place.
2) If it is, I don't know what it's doing on a 2002 engine (unless it had a replacement engine?).
Get the seller or your local MB dealer to run the VIN# report and they can tell you everything that MB has ever done to the car, maybe that will shed some light on it.

Nice, just be very careful buying a benz without warrenty...those could be very costly.... are u buying from dealership or private sale?

It’s definitely a 2002.
I should probably lookup some 03+ engine pictures to compare.
It's actually a good idea to have my Local MB dealer pull the VIN# report. But do you think they will have all the info since this car is not in the same state as I am? I'm not sure if they share the info because last time I changed my service MB dealer I had to provide all my info again and they said they can't retrieve the service\maintenance history.

I know, I guess I'm taking my chances with the repairs. If I find a good warranty deal though I will definitely take it. Believe me, I know how useful it can be.

That's interesting.... The VIN# says it's a 2002. I guess that confirms the fact that it could have been replaced by an 03+ SC due to the stock one being faulty. Now if that’s true….. would that be good because it has a SC from a later year or bad since it’s an indication that the engine is failing.

Get it checked out by an MB dealer, that's what I did with mine and get them to fax you the report and the MB history report.

Thats what happened with me. My SC started to make noise.. it worked and ran fine, but there was this whistling noise that bothered me. So I got it checked and the dealer decided to give me a brand new SC.. of course without the AMG plaque. Now my engine looks exactly like that. It doesn't always mean that the old SC was faulty, in my case they just couldn't fix the noise.

You have an 02 C32 that had the AMG signature Plaque in the stock SC engine? I thought only 03+ engines had it according to the pictures I came across on the web.

I Came across few 02 C32's for sale that have the same silver plate. Is the SC replacement a common thing in the 02 C32 engine??

I have a 2002 C32 and I had to have the supercharger replaced and it had the blank plate on it, no big deal, ask for service records before you buy, tommy

I have a 2003 C32, that never had a signature plate.

BLK_HALO yeah it's no big deal. Don't let it bother you, get the car if everything else is great. Just educate the seller that there was some work done on the engine.

I called The Dealership today and the service lady was very nice and helpful.
To my surprise she was able to pull out the service History and she mentioned something about some brushings, coil over replacement and some other "Vague" service when it was under warranty. But she said she can’t pull out any other service if it was done out of warranty because they don't keep track of it since they don't need to get reimbursed by MB HEADQUARTERS.
She also said she couldn't explain some other Vague service that had very little description which is probably some kind of maintenance service. I asked her if it mentions any Supercharger replacement and she said not.

So all in all. Based on the feedback I received from everyone here and the summary of Carfax and MB report... I finalized the Deal!!!!! So thank you all for your very helpful responses. I will be posting Pictures soon.

BTW, It's a fully loaded with navigation(really need it :p , ask anyone that knows me!!) black\black.... Can’t wait till it's in my garage!!!
