Is there a way to get C55 to hold gears longer?
My C55 doesn't hold gears for as long as I would like. I prefer to drive in "Sport" mode with traction control turned off. Is there any way to control how long the C55 holds it gears?
I drove a C230 loaner car today, and while obviously not as powerful as the C55, I noticed that it held its gears as long as I expected. For example, when I put the gas pedal to the floor, the odometer went all the way up to 6000/redline.
However, when I put the gas pedal to the floor with the C55 I am lucky if the odometer will go much over 4000. I pretty much have to intervene and manually downshift for the engine to rev any higher.

So by saying you prefer drive in "sport" mode, that means the S/W is switched to "S" [Sport/Standard] ? i.e. you aren't in "W" [Winter/Wet] mode and you aren't starting in 2nd gear.
Upshifting @ 4K with the foot to the floor is very very atypical ; should be seeing about 6400rpm shifts. I could see that happening if you are in "W" mode, but not "S" mode. If under warranty, I'd use it and take it in. Perhaps your W/S switch is broke/disconnected and you're actually running in "W" mode even if switched to "S".

You're lucky that your odometer won't go past 4K. Mine goes over 30,000..
Sorry, can't help it![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
BenzMan3, it's called Tachometer. Odomoter tells the mileage.

In "C" mode, the car starts off in 2nd gear when in Drive and in Reverse. It's good for low traction conditions (like snow) to minimize wheelspin. The car also will upshift at the earliest rpm possible to save on fuel and maximize smoothness of shifting. Overall, the car will run at a lower rpm than in "S" mode.
When I drive to work in stop and go traffic, or if I am cruising with my family, I always drive in "C" mode to save gas and prevent abrupt downshifting to maximize comfort. If I want to drive more aggressively, I'll switch to "S" mode. There is quite a noticeable difference between the 2 modes.
But back to the original question here: I find it very odd that the car will not rev above 4000rpm. Even in "C" mode, my car will upshift close to redline if you floor the car and press the kickdown button (the little click when the pedal hits the floor).

Now, you are saying you love to use 'S' mode but it does not seem
it holds a gear long enough that you wanted.
Firstly, 'S' mode will shift the gear automtically for you and the duration of a particular gear depends your driving behavior. If you floor the pedal and hold it at a point , I would not think the gear will shift until perhaps the computer has decided that 'you better change gear' in order to reach the maximum acceleration. 'S' mode will not hold a gear for you forever.
For "M' Mode, it holds a gear as long as you change it or when hitting redline.
( or it will force downshift if you car is detected to be 'too slow' for that gear )
Your statement (bold) is not correct or something wrong with your car.
