Need Suggestions! C55 -> C32 Modded

Again, I am thinking of getting rid of my C55..hoping to get 42k for trade...
and buying a used 2002 C32 AMG and get the Evosport stage II pakage for the car.

Anyone recommend it? =)

Why would you want to downgrade from a C55 to an older car that makes less HP with mods. Also, the warranty would expire on the '02 in a matter of months. I would just keep the C55 and add headers and cams. Warranty would still be okay on your '05.

Just by adding headers and cams on a V8, you should be able increase HP to almost 400HP. Go for Renntech headers and cams if you can, but expect a significant increase in exhaust/engine noise with the increase in HP. The Renntech headers and cams make the C55 sound like a corvette. It's loud.

I am also puzzled by this potential move. Why? A 2002 C32 is much older(meaning a much higher chance of developing electical/mechanical problems), has the old pre-face lift interior, smaller 17" rims, softer sprung suspension/chassis, less "direct" steering, and the typical C-class sport sedan front end/bumper.

Are you doing this to increase straightline acceleration or handling performance? You can add both by modding the existing C55 without resorting to modding an old C32.

As a C32 owner, I'll take that as an insult!!!

just kidding, I realize that the C55 is a newer, faster, "better" car.

I'm confused at the reaction here. Depending on what you want, this is not really a terrible idea. Let's compare Renntech kits:

C32
394bhp@5700 387Lbs.-ft@2700-5000
Performance Package 1 ECU Performance Upgrade & Larger Crankshaft Pulley Kit $3,495

450bhp@5600 440Lbs.-ft@3200-5200 Performance Package 3 Stage V, 3.8 L Conversion $ 14,950

C55
382bhp@5500 402Lbs.-ft@3000 Performance Package 1 ECU Performance Upgrade &. Carbon Fiber Air Box $3,495

460bhp@5500 465Lbs.-ft@2400-5000 Performance Package 2 Low Boost Supercharger Kit with Intercooler $ 15,900

So with the low end kits, both are pushing 400bhp for $3500 bucks + install. High end kits are also comparable.

I guess my point is that if money is an issue this guy might not be able to afford the C55 + mods to get him where he wants to go - but he can sell his C55 and get into a C32 with cash leftover for some nice mods.

Finally, no one offered to answer his question about the Evosport stage II pakage for the car. I'd like to know also.

I don't see why you're confused with the reaction. I think it's idiotic to buy a 60k car, sell it for 42k 1 year later realizing a 18k loss. Then go onto buy a c32 for 30k and putting 6k-8k mods into the car. Let's do the math. If he goes this route, he would effectively be paying ~ $56,000 for a 3 - 4 year old used stage 2 C32. Just doesn't make sense.

Obviously, it would make the world of sense if he never owned a C55.

42K sounds really low to me, especially considering what you've already put into it...Powerchip, pimpin rear brakes, etc. No way would I take the hit. I'd lean towards the Renntech mods.....

Ok then, assume the C55 sells for $42K. If your goal is the 1/4 mile, would you rather have a stock $42K C55 or a $30K C32 with $12K in mods?

You figured total cost for the modded C32 was $56K? Well using that math his alternative is a modded C55 for $68K. What if he can't afford the extra $12K?

This is an old argument and everyone has their own situations but all the C55 fanatics went nuts before they actually thought about why someone would want to do this.

I plan on upgrading to an E63....hopefully in 3-4 yrs. ...but it sounds like you may be looking for something similar or less in price than your C55.......hmmmmm

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see how taking a 18k hit in depreciation is better than just spending an additional 12k on a supercharger for your current C55???

Everyone who owns a new C55 should be able to afford a supercharger if they wanted to. My question is - how can you afford a 60k C55 and not afford a 12k supercharger? That doesn't really make sense, unless of course you really can't afford your 60k C55. Whatever.

Good luck and I hope you find what makes you happy.

For roughly the same price, but going with a Kleemann SC, you will be pusing 510hp in a C55.

Actually you can probably just do the Kleemann s/c, intercooler, and chip for about 13-14k including install. It's only when you start adding all the other goodies; i.e, headers, LSD, exhaust, etc. that it really starts to get pricey.

Personally, I think both cars are great. But, I would hesitate to take such a short-term financial hit on the C55.....perhaps there are other factors in the decision not being shared with us?

Does anyone know what can the C55 rotating assembly handle in terms of bhp before you throw a rod? What about the C32? Typically factory forced induction engines are over-engineered and can handle more then naturally aspirated, right? I don't doubt you can hit over 450-500hp with these C55 engines but do you do this on borrowed time? Just curious.

As much as you guys hate it...I did it...

I go an Ok deal on an 04 C32....

Mods gonna come real soon!
Evosport Power Package stage 1!

The c55 definitely pulls harder than the c32, noticable but not by a lot.
The 55 can make my passengers be quiet, while the 32 couldnt.

I am hoping that the evosport package can really make a difference as they advertise it to have 400 HP.
