'06 Carrera S

I took a black Carrera S Thanksgiving Day night on 270. I "believe" it was a new model cos of the rims and mirror.

Overtook him on Shady Grove road going towards the entrance to 270N and on the entry ramp... he was on my butt so I knew it was on.
Immediately after we got on the road... he cuts left and punches it... I punch it as the same time and he does not even pass me. I was infront of him when we hit some traffic and when he passed me... driver would not even look over... I was going to give him a thumbs up... oh well...

I know the S has a 4.6sec spec so go figure... bad driver perhaps...

Love the C32... nice car to come over from the M3 since I need 4 doors due to family commitments now...

I think its closer to 4.2 0-60 and the 1/4 is about 12.5 @ 116 ish "I think"

If he were truely using the car a stock C32 would have no chance.

None the less good run and the C32 is no slouch!

silver 2002 c32 amg
autocar's figures for the 997 carrera s were 0-60 4.6 secs
0-100 10.7 secs
30-70 thru the gears 4.1 secs
figures they got for c 32 amg were 0-60 4.6 secs
0-100 10.8 secs
30-70 thru the gears 3.9 secs
so there about equal.

i've had 3 diff 911's try me and not 1 could beat me, not 997's though 993's + a 996

Fast Cars!
Actually if you remember the road and track test the Carrera S got a 3.9 0-60 time. If driven and broken in coorectly they can run the 1/4 low 12.s 12.3-12.4 is easy with a good driver and the 6 speed.

Maybe the one you raced was a tiptronic, or he probably did not know how to drive good. The 997S will beat a C32 with mods like pulley and ECU. They are pretty much just as fast as a stock 996TT. But either way, if he messed up or cant drive nice kill!

congrats.....

but I would not call it a kill....

more like you were hangin' with a $90k Porsche, which in my eyes you were representing the fine AMG cars.

From a role or from a dig... the Carrera S should win...

He probably was trying, but only about 80 to 90%. I do it all the time to less powerful cars, 350z, G35 coupe, S4, STI, Evo's (all appeared to be stock). You don't want to gun it 100% all the time, and you don't want to stay too back either.

Also, I tend to hold back when there is traffic, since I have been in too many close calls and really it makes no sence. My wife and I almost got divorsed the last time, I started playing with someone with traffic.

Open stretch highways, empty freeways, and occasional empty Blvd... no problem.

keep representin' brother!

none
Considering I beat a 996 Carrera S4 in my C43 I know that the other driver is not always on key.

A few months ago I ran a 996 Carrera S4 from a stoplight. We both chirped tires from a stop so I know we were racing. However I heard alot of noises(reving, clicking, etc...)across the lane and I remainded a full cars length ahead. This just tells me that a standard with a poor driver can lose up to a full second or more on acceleration times.

All I can really do is floor it and my car should be consistant within tenths each time depending on the AMG tranny to shift. The guy finally blew by me at 80 but I was already on the brakes for the next light. He must have been pissed as it is easily the faster car(the 996).

Yep. Speed makes you crazy!

Back to the 911 "almost" kill....the 911 is a fine auto, no doubt. But..it does take a good driver to handle the beast. It just needs four doors!

996 C4, previously owned 996 c2, c32 amg, 350z, R33 GTR, R34 GTR
Just driven a 997 C2 S - the grip in the wet from a standing start is fantastic, the acceleration is good from 400rpm (but felt a little slower than my c32).
Crap interior and felt noisy and tinny. I didnt like the engine sound either.

Best bit is the feel of the car in the corners - superb feel and response from the light front end and using the throttle to bring the rear into play .

Would definately consider buying a 2-3 year old one as £80k is too much imo

it feels slower cause the isnt as much torque. i drove a c4s 996, fantastic interior, in a different league from my ****y *** interior

don't forget the weight over the rear axles for the 911 is a traction advantage.

i'd like to see stats for roll on say 5 mph to 120 for both cars .

the Cd for the 911 is a respectable 0.29 vs the c32 0.27 still i would think the c32 would hang with the 911 or even beat it once you negate the initial traction advantage.........
