I'm looking at a 2002 C32 with around 68,000 miles. I love the car, but I'm concerned about the mileage. It appears to be in great condition, but I know an AMG car has probably been driven hard.

Is there anything in particular to look out for? The price is right, but not if I have to dump a bunch of money into repairs. Any help is appreciated.

Get it inspected by Mercedes (if it's not at an MB dealer (this cost me $300)), get them to fax you the MB VIN history/service report (will tell you everything MB knows about the car), get a subscription to www.alldata.com and see the great long list of things that can go wrong with this car, check the VIN# to see which service bullitins apply to that car (the radiator/transmission one can cost $6K to resolve).
Have fun, it's a great car.

Thanks for the responses. This is not a dealership purchase, but a wholesale auction. I would certainly have it inspected by my Mercedes mechanic prior to purchase.

See if he can run the VIN/service history report (needs to be done at an MB dealership) as that will tell you everything MB knows about the vehical and will give you a good idea on how hard it's been treated.

I just bought an 02 C32 with 85k miles a couple of weeks ago. The previous owner bought it used with the Starmark warranty to 100k which transferred to me.. I got mine really cheap (27.5k) and the car was in excellent condition fully loaded with every option. I am not too concerned about the high miles.. Keep in mind though 68k isn't too bad but thats seems to be about the point when little things start going wrong..

My two cents.. good luck.. I am very happy with mine so far..

Your warranty is probably expired already. LOL

Mark check if Starmark still covers your vehicle. There is a pitfall with Starmark warranty. Basicly once a factory warranty expires which is 50K or 4 years, you get an additional 1 year or up to 100k. It's very likely that the owner had 50K miles more then a year ago and your warranty is expired.

Luckily the warranty isn't expired. The guy I bought it from only owned it for a year. I checked with the dealer and they said I am covered to 100k or 4/07 which ever comes first.

I believe you will see that your full MBZ Extended Warranty (i.e 7yr/100k or 8yr/100k), is even better than what they offer on a new car these days. My extended warranty covers everything except the brake pads, fluids etc. As I recall even the Service A and B's are covered.

Inspection, service report, and the other 'history' related stuff are hardly important when you have a long and full warranty through the dealer.

Can you verify that the A and B services are covered under extended warrenty?
