BBS LM fitment on C55/C32

I've seen BBS LM's on C32's before and would like to know whether spacers are required for the front wheels. I also want to lower the car about 2 inches in the front with KW V2 coilovers. I was digging in the archives which provided no help as some of the responses said yes and some said no they will not clear the AMG calipers. Does someone have a definite answer? These will be going on my C55. If spacers are required for the LM's then I guess HRE 540R's it is (I'm not a fan of spacers). :p Thanks in advance everyone.

Bbs Lm

I agree, spacers are simply a bad idea on a performance car.

I have BBS LM Champion Edition in 18" on C32 and they clear without any spacers at either end. You can run 235 and 265's with these, lowered on PSS9's. I don't think you can get a full 2" lowered though, about 1.75 is OK though.

For some reason, it looks like BBS 19's can't clear as easily as the 18's do.

My LMs will be going up for sale pretty soon.

Thanks for the reply RRF. I forgot to specify that I am looking at buying 19x8.5 (F) and 19x9.5 (R). Thanks for the info though. Maybe 1.7 might be enough for me but we'll have to see. Do you have pictures of the 18" LM's on your car? Thanks

Another question: Does anyone know who owns this car and if he's on the forum?

Okay another question for the experts here. So I was looking on BBS's website and it looks like there is fitment for W209 CLK55's. Being that the C55 has the same front end as the W209 CLK55's will the LM's from the CLK55 clear the caliper on the C55? The only difference from my research is that the CLK55 uses a 6 pot caliper vs the C55's 4 pot. Are there ANY other differences between the 2 front brake systems that would pose a wheel interchangeability issue? The shop has a set in stock and would like to pick them up. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info DbleNckel. I'll hit him up with the remaining questions I have.

So anyway, when in doubt call BBS. The shop I'm going through finally called after I told them there was a W209 CLK55 application. Well what do you know? BBS says they will fit the C55 with no issues BUT a spacer is required. The good news is that BBS makes the wheel/car specific spacer so quality shouldn't be an issue. (It'd better not be at $80/side ) So my wheels are on order and I will have them next week. Weeeee. Thanks for your help guys.

no prob....trust me I was constantly staring at his pics when i was in the market for wheels....I was so close to getting LM's for my car too....but decided not too when i got a good deal on my HRE's

it's gonna look sweet!!! I'm gonna be hella jealous when you get them on.....it seems normal and often that LM's require a spacer for their wheels....my buddy has them on his S2K and it came w/ spacers when he ordered it....weird, but I guess it works...

No need to be jealous. You still have HRE's!!

It seems like cars with BBK seem to require spacers when paired up with the BBS LM's because the spokes are flat compared to the curved nature of most HRE's I've seen especially those on the 540R's. I think that curved face is the key to fitting rims on a car with BBK calipers like on AMG cars.

The tires I want (Toyo T1R's) are on backorder which means more waiting. Grrr.

They said hopefully there will be stock by the first/second week of the year. I guess I can wait that long.

sdsilverm3,

Do you know the weight difference between the BBS LMs and HRE 540Rs? I'm planning to get 540Rs with PSS9s for my C55. Is there any reason why you're going with the KW V2 Coilovers instead of the PSS9s?

Judging from the pics of the C32 with BBS LMs... your white C55 is going to look tight. I'm looking forward to seeing the pics.

I'm not sure about the weight difference since it wasn't much of a priority for me anyway. I just didn't like the fact that the face sticks out on the front wheels of the 540R's.

The main reason I'm going with KW's is mainly because of after-purchase support should anything happen. The shop I go through has a close relationship with KW. I also liked the ride quality on my friend's slammed M3. So KW's were an easy choice for me.

the BBS LM 19x8.5 weight 24.8 lbs and 19x9.5 weight 25.1 lbs. The HRE 540 series are about 23-24 lbs max.

Thanks. The car belongs to Peter and I have already spoken with him to confirm what modifications were needed to make the wheels fit. Wheels will be here tomorrow. Yay!

BTW, in case anyone else down the road is interested in knowing what is needed to make the LM's fit here is a link to the mods that were done to Peter's car.

I forgot to post the offset for you the other day. The fronts are +32 and the rears are +23.

I believe the spacer is a 5mm hubcentric. Apparently nobody makes a 5mm hubcentric but BBS has it specifically for MB's and the LM's.

Carlsson makes them, but they are specific for Carlsson wheels.

post some pictures if you have them mounted on the car already

You are correct Frank. What I meant was nobody makes a universal 5mm hubcentric application. How much do the Carlsson spacers run? I bet they're pretty pricy too. But I guess if someone wants the rims bad enough they will pay the price.

The rims already came in but still awaiting tires. The rear tires (265/30 Toyo T1R's) came in today but still haven't seen the front tires (235/35 T1R's). My coilovers still aren't in yet so more waiting. Everything will probably go on the car at once because we did a test fitment of the front wheels and my god we're pushing it close. I hope it clears the spring seat on the KW V2 coilovers otherwise it's plan B or C. Meaning H&R coilovers instead because it worked on Peter's C32 orrrrrr HRE 540R's. Here are some teaser pics in the meantime. :p
