On startup my engine makes the typical whining noise. However, more disturbing is the tappet noise that continues for about 3 minutes until the engine warms up. It has been fairly cold here, and I did not notice it when the weather was warm. Anyone else have this problem, and what did you find out from the dealer?

I've got the *exact* same issue on my C32. I'm too cheap to take it to the dealer. Let me know if you find out what it is.

My car will not make the tappet noise on idle but if I start driving about 2500 rpm it is very apparent until the engine is warm. I just try to make the car shift earlier until warm. I think it is normal for our cars as other people have said the same thing.

They all tend to do this noise. What weight oil are you using ?

It is the emissions air pump for cold start up. Usually last for several minutes until the engine warms up.

The emissions air pump for the whining noise?? The tappet related noise I was guessing was exhaust manifold related.

The oil is changed regularly by the dealer. It is Mobil 1; - presumably 10W40? I will discuss it with the dealer and have them look into it. If I get any specific information I will report.

If you get a reasonable explanation from your dealer - PLEASE let us know. I've been searching for an accurate explanation for the whining noise, and no one seems to know the answer. The noise is embarrasing for an AMG V8.

AGREEEED! A 60k car sounding like that is pathetic. Oh well it sounds great when warmed up.
