Used 2005 C55...

Looking at a used '05 C55 (w/11K miles) for $46K.

Any issues I should pay attention to? I notice the previous owner had to bring it in for a transmission plug replacment, because fluids were leaking from it. Should I be concern about that?

Also, it says 2 days left before service B is required. Anyone already done this, how much should I expect to pay?

Thanks!

That's very steep IMHO. I bought mine(2005) in Sept. for $50K. It does not have the premium, lighting package, but I didn't really care for that stuff anyways. Plus, I can always upgrade to Bi-xenon and Nav in the future. If your interested, the color on mine is granite gray with black interior, probably one of the most desired color combos. Point is, you should be able to find one for alot less.

Yes, I would be concerned about the issues. It's unusual for these cars to have those sort of issues with such low mileage. Could be a red flag that the owner was very hard on the car and did not let oil temps warm up before driving agressively.
Also, be sure to find out that the car does not have any aftermarket products, if so the car may no longer be under factory warranty.

My 0.02, pay a couple grand more and by a new one. With exceedingly high fuel prices dealers are probably not selling as many C55s as they did a year ago. I am sure they are very negotiable on their prices.

If you are interested, I will send you the contact info of the dealer where I bought mine. Good luck.

Thanks for the comments 2QUIK4U. It's just so hard to pass up after test driving it!!

One other thing I forgot to mention is that a message came up about the oil level being too high?

I hear your man, but there are plenty of C55s out there. It's not like this is a rare car that you will have trouble finding. Just be patient. You will only regret rushing into something like this.

Have you checked the following for C55s:

www.autotrader.com

www.cars.com

and of course www.ebay.com

As I said earlier, don't necessarily think that a dealers asking price is what you have to pay. They are very negotiable and especially with a car like the C55. Part of their thought is that if you buy a car from them now, there is a high likelihood that you will purchase from them in the future again. It's the repeat customers they are looking for.

Again, be patient and don't make a $50,000 mistake.

base is 55k I believe.. I think 46k seems reasonable. The car is still under factory warranty.. only 11k miles? How much less do you expect to find one for? Probably not much less..

There is one on ebay for 44k buy it now with 25k miles.. so 46k with less than half the miles sounds ok..

If you got yours new for 50... you got a pretty damn good deal.. it probably also depends what city you are in.. but I have a c32 so what do I know.. LOL..

the transmission plug replacement isn't a big deal if it's the same one that i had done on my car. basically, if i didn't use my car for a couple of weeks, i'd get small amounts of tranny fluid leaking. dealer just replaced a seal and i should never have the problem again.

service b on a car with only 11K miles? isn't that kind of quick? i'm getting my first service b done next week and i'm at around 18K miles, which i thought was pretty quick. a couple of dealers quoted me at $288 for the service.

Yeah, I think $46K is reasonable especially in the Bay Area. I know prices are lower outside my area but with a young baby, taking off to p/u a car is not that easy anymore.

Thanks for everyone's comments but I have passed on this particular C55, not because of the price but I can't shake off knowing the previous had to fix the transmission plug PLUS the warning message about the oil level. It made me nervous about this C55's past life.

I know these AMG engines needs to go through a proper break-in period (I had a 2000 CLK55) and I'm not confident the previous knew how or care to.

I may wait a little while and see what prices the '06 or '07 comes to be.

I think you made the right choice. That is the exact reason why I decided to buy a new one. Break-in is critical on any engine and unfortunately many people don't believe that. Additionally, there is nothing better than a brand new unmolested car. Definitely worth the extra $4-$5K in my opinion. Good luck finding the right one. You are definitely in the right direction with the C55.

$46K is a bit stip, IMHO, anyway.
I got mine in Dec, '05 with 15k miles, black on black, every single option except phone, for 44k shipped from Texas to Florida ($1200). By the way, props to FedEx Passport shipping company - enclosed trailer and so on

I don't have one...so I guess don't know much about it either.

I was just pointing it out, no offense intended.
